    Question WOOD or MDF ?

if i put together some pachinko cabinets in time for christmas would you prefer them made of 3/4 plywood @ $79.00 each or mdf ready for paint @ $59.00 each?
the front and top edges will be routed round and there will be no exposed screws on front or sides. they will have a large platform for a base rather than seperate feet on the sides.( they will come shipped complete other than monting the base, which will be predrilled for included screws)
constucted with a large hopper on top and a shelf below to slide in your ball catching tray, the option for a hinged top will be $10.00 extra.
i can also offer a wall mount version for the same prices.(this will have a small base and a french cleat for wall mounting)

And you haven't listed these in the auction yet because..........

my link talks about a semi-erect enis

    1. MDF 12 up, 3 down
    A semi-erect kenis.

Name after the building material of the that name (Medium Density Fibreboard) which is "not quite wood".

What's wrong with a good solid wood board material that is without knot holes and has no laminate or glue?

MDF or particle board is wood chips, sawdust etc that is processed then compacted... Since I sell pool tables, I wouldnt recommend it for a pool table, but for a pachinko case it should be fine.
    LDF/MDF/HDF Low/Medium/High Density Fibers.
And it depends, the stain on real wood always looks nicer then a stain on particle board, but if you do straight paint it wouldnt really matter.

i stopped at the local builders square this morning and found that the clear pine and bass varied in width by up to a 1/4 inch although the thickness was standard. id have to rip each piece to a uniform width and also charcge 12.00 more per unit.
i plan on makeing cabnets out of solid oak and cherry after the ho;idays, if they turn out nice i'll offer some of them up here also.

My fellow pachi fans I would like to share a few basics so we all have a common understanding of the wood working principles, Lets call it Woodshop 090:
MDF is not as strong or stainable as Plywood. Plywood is offered in a variety of hardwood outer laminates. it matches well with a solid wood face frame. MDF can be laminated but it not as strong. plywood and mdf are more stable than solid wood. a wide piece of solid wood or a glue-up of several pieces of solid wood is prone to warping and cupping. exposed edges of plywood need to be 'banded' in order to cover the laminations.
Typicaly a cabinet is made of a combination of materials plywood or in cheapo units MDF with a wood looking sticker is used to construct the carcass (sides, top bottom) a solid wood face frame is screwed to the carcass and doors attached to the face frame. These doors can be similar MDF covered with laminate or solid wood panel doors. the panel itself can be 1/4" plywood or laminated MDF or a solid wood raised panel.
The light box frames I have shown you are actually panel doors with the belly glass for a panel.
    Cheers,

One thing you have to watch out for with MDF is having exposed edges and not using t-molding. It doesn't take a huge bump to knock out a chip. I built my MAME arcade machine out of mdf and if you use a foam roller you can put a nice looking paint job on there. You could use cabinet grade plywood but you would probably want to use the iron on wood veneer for the edges.
