    Default Christmas display

    Police Investigate Distressing Holiday Display
    Royal Oak, Michigan

December 6, 2001 — Some people are taking Christmas display a little too seriously.
Instead of the usual blinking lights and dangling icicles, the Salahs have a dangling man hanging from their home. It's a dummy that looks like it had an ugly mishap while hanging Christmas lights. But some of their neighbors didn't get the joke, fearing the dangling man was real. Sue Salah says the police officer sent to investigate thought it was funny, but asked them to take it down anyway. santa.jpg

gotta love a good joke. Too bad the Royal Oak people don't actually talk to each other they just call 911 on each other.

You think if the neighbor called the police , they would have ran over to see if they could help first then call the police. Maybe it is to much to ask to get off your to check on your neighbor. Just easier to pick up the phone I guess.

thats one of the reasons why I moved back to my younger days stomping grounds. if the nieghbors don't see ya for a couple days they are knocking on your door. go on vacation? they will pick up your mail and keep an eye on the place, need to borrow a tool or a riding lawn mower? no problem. My father woke up one nite due to a thud on the side of the house. When he went to check it out, the neighbor next door was whoopin up on a stranger that he saw trying to break into my father's storage shed... Thats the type of environment I want my girls growing up in. NOT like warsaw, (edit) our neighbor up in warsaw, callopsed to a heat stroke, poor guy died!!!!! wife left at 11:30 that morning while he was mowing, returned around 4 that afternoon to find him dead about 15ft. from where he was at when she left. You go on vacation???? don't tell anyone, you will come home to an empty home......

And we were living in the "good side" of town..... Hate to see what the bad side of town was like....

    I agree entirely,

I moved from the 'bright Lights Chav Town!' where I narrowly escaped being mugged in broad daylight about 15 steps from my front door and not ONE person came to help!! I also had armed police train guns at an escaped thug just opposite my Home on another occasion!!

I decided the sleepy little Seaside Place where the rest of my family lived - would be a much nicer, safer environment. Here all the locals know you by name or sight and there is a Genuine Caring attitude......I'm sure If I wasn't seen at least once a day - my neighbours would come looking to see if I was okay..........

    Yeah......give me Small Town anyday......

Years ago back in the small town I grew up in it was hard going for a walk people would stop and see if you needed a ride. Now that many people are walking for their health it is not an issue. The house across the street caught on fire and my dad almost gave himself a heart attack shoveling snow into a window trying to put out the fire. The volunteer fire department was not so good, I think their motto was "we never lost a foundation' I think they stopped at the store for beer on the way to a fire.

That's why I started with the about comment. I do believe that most people in bigger towns don't care or even know who their neighbors are. I live in NJ now, I have lived in this town for 28 years in the same house. I know 2 of my neighbors & have been in 1 neighbors house. You wave to people & they get upset because they think you want something. My wife & I just bought a house in TN & that is were she is now. (I am in NJ fixing it to sell it). I have no fear about her being there because I know that almost every neighbor down there is keeping an eye on her to make sure she is ok. She told me one day she did not leave the house because she was busy all day, around 4pm 2 neighbors stopped by to make sure everything was ok because they had not seen her outside today.
It is much nicer & less stressful to live in an area were your neighbors care & you know that they will help you if you need it.

I live in one of those neighborhoods where you do know your neighbors and borrow tools from each other, watch out for each others home and grab their dog if it gets out. It's nice. I have some nice neighbors.

Not for nothing but i think that light show is great. I would not put that much on my house but the man has the Christmas spirit & he is not afraid to let it out. There is a guy a couple miles from me that does one bigger then that one. people from all over the state come to see his light show. It is better then the one the state puts on.
