It would be fine if you did not want to have the belly glass in a light box. I think the motor for a clock would cast a big, ugly shadow. I have belly glass that has mirror like lettering and details that look good without the backlight.

oyu would get away with a digital LCD the size of the display thoughas the display would cover any shadow

you could put a small LED clock in one of the lower corners, should do away with most of the shadow.
OR get a junk pachinko cell and....Pachinko Clock

I saw transparent LCD desk clocks before it is see through except for the numbers. depending on how bad it would be to mount it could look incredible.

Thumbs up Re: Slot toppers or wall light?

I finished the two I made as a test. I have a working design now I can make some from oak.
I am thinking of silver leafing part of the frame.

I'm very jealous of his wood working skills, he is a true craftsman. The wall lights have a very factory fresh look

Metz and met and I showed him the 2 test lights I made, the Taco slot has an almost holographic background, it looks about 4-5" deep from the surface to the illusionary background, Weird because the light it really is only 2" deep. it is made of 2 plates not one, the cover plate has a grid that causes the 3d effect.
Thanks everyone for the nice comments! I hope you get to see one up close soon!
