Skype testers needed!

HEY PACHITALKERS!!!

We've got something good planned for you, but we need a little help to get it going.

For those that have Skype installed, and have a headset (or even headphones with a separate mic)... WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Or if you don't have it yet, and decide to install it to give it a try, please let me know.

Please send me a PM with your Skype contact information (Skype user name), and I'll fill you in from there.
This information WILL be kept private!

What we have planned has the potential to be a very cool thing for all of us here at PachiTalk.
And I'm willing to give of my time and effort to see it happen, in celebration of PachiTalk's SECOND anniversary.

I think people will like what's up our sleeves.

And if it works out... as I understand it... you will be able to use ANY telephone in the US or UK to join... later... once we get going.
So those of you that DON'T have high speed internet, but have unlimited nights and weekends on your cell service, might be able to join the fun in the future for free, too!

My opinion:
Skype is a voice (or chat) program that has been proving very successful.
It's VoiP (voice over internet protocol) and with it, you can talk... yes, TALK to other Skypers, computer to computer, for free! The quality depends a lot on your connection speed, but even on a moderate DSL line, it does VERY well.

They even have a promotion going on right now for FREE long distance within the US, to ANY US telephone. It doesn't even have to be a computer phone! ANY computer US phone call, free, from your computer. The offer is good through the end of the year.

I am participating in the conference, but no one is there.

I've been using Skype for two years now (started with the beta version) and it works great. I love it! There is even an answering machine add on...I tried it about 8 months ago, but it didn't work too well. maybe I will try it again someday.

Thanks go to all that participated in the VERY successful test Wednesday afternoon and evening.

We had a total of SEVEN members participate in our "beta" test conference over the duration... from TWO different countries.

Now, how cool is THAT????

Remember, that number is FREE though Skype. The software is FREE, the call is FREE, the fun is PRICELESS!!!

We could theoretically have HUNDREDS of member at these virtual conferences, along with special guests and interviews!!!... but only YOU can make that happen by showing your interest.

I've set the software so that the conference room WILL remain open for any members that would like to have a mini-conference... at any time.

Just dial that number above, using Skype's "dial" entry. (Again... it's FREE)

Once ANY two people are there, the system will automatically join you. When another person joins, you'll hear a single beep. When someone leaves, you'll hear two beeps.

You'll know when a moderator enters, by the announcement. At that point, just continue to talk and visit... as if we're real people, too.
The mod will be able to take "control" if there is an official conference scheduled.

I have downloaded the program, but I do not have a headset. Anything special I need or Just a head set?

I used a headset, LP had a usb phone. It is possible that you don't need either of those, but I will let someone who knows answer that.

That's a matter of personal choice, I suppose.
You want one of a good enough quality, but you don't need to go to a big expense if you don't want to.

I've tried a few different types. The one I finally settled on was a Logitech USB model. It has it's own sound capability, so I don't have to use the mic in and audio out jacks of my soundcard. That got to be a pain, since they are on the back of the computer I use most often.
But most any COMPUTER ready headset will do.

You could even use regular headphones and a desk mic... but from what we heard today, the folks with headsets (mic near the SIDE of the mouth) came through with better sound quality.

I also just found a USB VoIP telephone, Skype "certified", at the local Radio Shack... for only $9.99 on clearance. With the included drivers, you can use it just like a regular telephone, only through Skype.

During today's test conference, I found the phone unit to be a bit of a pain... having to rest it on my shoulder to type. But that is just because I was moderating the calls. It would have been fine as a regular participant.

That's the one I got. It works very well.

It was clearance priced at $9.99, too... at least at my store.

As long as your laptop has a USB port, and Windows XP or better, that should do the trick.

One other suggestion here... don't try to use a microphone without headphones (don't use speakers as your sound output).

You might not notice any problem, but those talking to you will hear themselves echo. It's quite distracting to everyone in the conference.

BTW... here's the headset that I use. Not the most expensive, but not the cheapest either.
