    Question Problem with pachitalk?

I was just wandering if anyone else running IE6 was having problems with pachitalk loading up very slowly and/or getting a "server not found" msg. I have been expierencing this for about a week now. I have cleared: the files, cookies, and offline content with no success. if I go to a different site such as fleabay, it works like a champ. any and all suggestion will be appreciated.....

It's hard to go 70 MPH with that mechanic working under the hood.

PachiTalk has been slow and sometimes difficult for me to access also. I thought it was my computer, but other sites work fine... even sites heavy in graphics, etc.

Well it's not the mechanic under the hood.

I had our hosting site move us to a different server where there's only one other site being hosted. We hit some nasty slow downs yesterday and I inquired what the hell was going on now, they replied that someone was sending a ton of email, meaning the other site. They promised to rectify it.

I try not to complain too much as there aren't too many good hosting companies out there, most are scam sites themselves and we're with a supposed good one. But you can't deny the database error emails I receive daily when these slow downs occur.

We aren't too big to be on a shared server, we don't generate that much traffic to slow a server down and when that other site isn't eating all the resources, this sever is damn quick. Who they are and what is going on, I have no idea.

In the end it comes down to this, we aren't big enough to warrant a private server at $3000 a year and we aren't big enough to warrant a virtual private server at $900 a year. We simply do not get enough clicks or auction sales to support those costs.

When these slow downs occur, it's generally only a couple of minutes. If it lasts longer than that and I'm on line, I'm alerting our hosting company. If I'm not on line, I have no idea what they are doing if anything about it?

I'm sorry, but it is what it is and there's not a whole hell of a lot I can do about it.

My problems have been minor and infrequent. They seem to work themselves out quick enough, I'm sure we can all live with that Thank you Tulsa.

I defragged my hard drive last night, my DSL download speeds have all been very slow lately.

It really didn't help any, but I can live with it----still a lot faster than dial up

Thanks for the update Tulsa, at least I now know it is not the computor - which was about to go in the bin. It is an old work PC & cost me about £70 3 or 4 years ago, time for a new one I thought, but maybe I will save the money towards a new pachi instead.

Also, let's not forget the law of averages.

Most of the regular members here, spend more time here than they do on other sites. A lot more. When a slow down occurs, you're more apt to see it because you're here longer.

If you only popped in for 5 or 10 minutes a day, here and there, you'd almost never see a slow down.

The only real issue I encountered was when we were simultaneously posting in the same thread, Sid an I were answering the same question at the same time, Angie and I were bouncing back and forth and tripping on each other.

just tried posting but posted nothing I lost my post. this is what I received:

    The connection has timed out

The server at www.pachitalk.com is taking too long to respond.

    * The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
    moments.

    * If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
    connection.

    * If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

I refreshed and got the page back, sans my post.

    Default No Problem with PatchiTalk?

I know that Tulsa is doing more that any one could expect one person to do to keep PatchiTalk running as smooth as possible.
It just seems like server side php scripts just don't go some of the time.
It could be the ISP doing something for maintenance or they might be trying to push for a bump up in service by limiting the amount of scripts that can be run at a given time.
The way it is now, it is worth 10X the price to belong to PatchiTalk.
After about 3 seconds, I know if the page I call, will come up or I'll get a time out. It is still the best site for information on our addiction.
