    Jeff,

I have a MPU5 User Manual - don't know if any of the info in it would be helpful to you or not? Unfortunately don't have an MPU4 one...........

If anything is relevant - please explain in VERY Simplistic terms roughly what I need to look for?

Are you asking about the two sets of eight DIL selector Switches (SW1 and SW2) ???

I am not too good with Technical thingys!

    MPU5 – Option Switches

Two sets of eight DIL selector switches (SW1 and SW2) are mounted on the MPU5 unit (SW1) and the Program Module (SW2) at the rear of the machine.

By using these switches several control options are available for the machine. The options are available when the switch is switched on (to the left).

    Switch Bank 1

    No: Function: Left: Right:
1.8 Percentage payout adjust 3 yes no
1.7 Percentage payout adjust 2 yes no
1.6 Percentage payout adjust 1 yes no
    1.4 Not used
    1.3 Not used
1.2 Bank limited to £20 yes no
1.1 Wins paid out direct yes no

    Switch Bank 2

    No: Function: Left: Right:
2.8 Single credit entry yes no
2.7 Odd percentage payout enable yes no
2.6 Coin alarm inhibit yes no
    2.5 Not used
    2.4 OCD inhibit yes no
    2.3 Not used
2.2 Mains tamper disable yes no
    2.1 not used

The function of each of the option switches is as follows:

SW1.1 with this switch selected all wins are paid out directly. Default is for all wins to be banked as normal.
SW1.2 with this switch selected the bank limit is set to £20. Default is a bank limit of £50.
    SW1.3 not used
    SW1.4 not used
SW1.5 to SW1.8 percentage payout adjust – these switches are used to set up the target payout percentage in machines which do not have a percentage key fitted or do not have the ‘Y’ type software card fitted. The settings of the switches are as follows (JEFF if you want the Table of percentages let me know!!)
    SW2.1 not used
SW2.2 mains tamper disable – when this switch is set to the on position the mains tamper check is disabled
    SW2.3 not used
SW2.4 O.C.D. inhibit – if the machine is sited in a location where the out of credit display is distracting, selecting this option can inhibit it
    SW2.5 not used
SW2.6 coin alarm inhibit – when this switch is selected to On it disables the coin alarm software
SW2.7 the selection of this option will add 1% to the chosen % payout regardless of whether the selection is by key or option switch
SW2.8 single credit entry – the machine normally accepts multiple credits. If there is a problem with security or strimming, operation of this switch to the ON position will only allow the machine to accept single credits

the reels are all backlite graphics and light animated as well as a progressive pot in the upper right . I have the machine operating tokenless right now and the hopper tests good just cant seem to get the machine to dump credits to the hopper yet. the settings above dont seem to work on the mpu4 i have been able to decrease the odds so it plays a bit more like the casino now . the sounds are very catchy and the attract mode is neat also it has so many lights that flash alternating it reminds me more of a old style pinball the way its layedout inside .

cool as jeff..... its alot like the clasic arcade / casino style slot that tey put in the over18's section in our arcades theres usualy a hand full of
"cheats" in them Barcrests clasic is three holds in a row
ie if the hold buttons come in to play hold the 2 reels you want then hold the 2 rells you want again and finaly on the third spin hold them again and it will spin in the win
also there is the holds after nudges
if you get teh chance to nudge in a win and you dont quite have enough nudges to quite make it get in 2 of the reels and the machine may offer you to hold them if it dose then dont hold them and the machine will flash make a noise and spin the win directly in
My rice krispies told me to do it

it wasnt on a pallet when i got there but it was suppose to be another wackey reels machine.
this machine doesnt hold or nudge at least that im aware of . the reel stop buttons do exactly that although they do fill the bank for you if you hold one down after betting 1 coin .somewhat like autostops auto credit mod.

got it up and running as it should hopper is now paying out. The machine was in test mode (door switch had been by passed to stay that way ) thats the reason the hopper wasn't paying out .its now playing as it should ripping me off blind (all settings are programmable ) but it pays a lot of small pots to keep you interested and the progressive is interesting to watch as you play . Also programmed the digital display to say "Casino Del Jeff" all i need now is more 24v bulbs to replace about 10 or so that are out this machine must have about 100 or so bulbs for the door and head piece . The more i play it the more i like it . I converted it over to tokens (thats a switch) its working just fine on the heavier chrome tokens haven't had a jam yet .I agree these should be sold here but they are casino machines and same limitations would apply as current us machines as well as hernia medical bills for those delivering them .they really do dwarf the pachislo machines when it comes to size and weight . it really is an intresting machine .next step is conversion back to an auto stop machine .ordered 2 kits from autostop will convert them to be used in this machine of course you'll be able to stop the reels if you wish ....

neither but they felt like they were going out the emergency escape tunnel during the lift into the house .

I found the last bug yesterday if i ran the machine for a period of time (i.e 2 hours or so ) it would malfunction giving a "60 meter shorted " error then resetting its self over and over again while going off like a car alarm. (most likely the reason for them running it in test mode in the first place .)so i disconnected the plug labeled metering and the alarm stopped but i found the machine wouldn't take coins (no power to the coin comparator ) and the arm was locked and wouldn't release so i disconnected the comparator and turned it on and reconnected the plug the alarm came back .... so i disconnected the solenoid for the arm and reconnected the comparator this time the error didn't come back ......figures the arm of all things would be the problem !!!!! so i took off the solenoid for now and the arm works perfectly just doesn't lock .(not a problem doesn't effect game play at all) i put a meter on the coil it registers 12 ohm in both directions so the coil is probably OK but the diode is probably open causing the alarm . will work on it later .the machine has been running flawlessly for over 24 hours now and the progressive is building and not being reset by the fault. Just a hand full of 12volt wedge bulbs ,yes 12volt car tun signal bulbs are whats used and its back to operational status . The more i play with this monster the more i like it . I bought a field service manual from some guy on ebay in england it should be here late next week then the real fun comes as i convert it back to auto stop /skill stop with the flick of a switch . I bought 2 of autostops diy kits to use for the timers and only have to figure out the interface to make them work as intended will let you know the out come .....

Your passion for the smell of solder is outstanding. Could you use an IGT solenoid on it?

strange you ask that i have since found out that Backrest is the English subsidiary of igt but they bought them after the production of this machine . i have 3 of the igt solenoids so ill try them later although i think this one is good just needs to have the diode replaced same old problem as the electronic pinballs use to have when they first came out always blowing diodes on the flipper coils.
