Goodbye SimSim.

As some of you already know, my beloved Golden Retriever has been battling cancer for the past few months. The last few days have been heartbreaking here at my house as his condition deteriorated very quickly. I was faced with the decision of having him euthanised at some point today, but my prayers have been answered and he passed here at home over night. His name was SimSim and he was a beautiful gentle giant. We will miss him very much.

Dawn, I'm so sorry to here of SimSim's passing. I know how hard times like this are for everyone. I don't know what to say, so I'll just post something I found on the net. I hope it brings you some comfort.


Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I'm so very sorry to hear of SimSim's passing. The good news is he passed away on his own. I had a beloved Pekingese euthanized back in the mid-80s and it still hurts to this day to think about the way she looked at me when I brought her to the vet.

Thank you all for your kind words. We are taking a great deal of comfort in the fact that he passed here at home surrounded by our love. The first picture is after a swim in my Mom's pond, one of his favorite things to do. The third picture is the day he was diagnosed and the last is playing in the snow...another favorite thing to do. He was very big, by Golden standards and sired by a champion. Having a diner, we fed him very well and he came to know the meaning of a white styrofoam take-out box. We could barely get one past him as he expected them all to be his, occasionally, they were for us He was the most gentle and loving family dog...so we could overlook the fact that everything we threw up in the air for him to catch bounced off his head. We loved him dearly and have enough good memories to last our lifetime. Thank you for letting me share, it has helped.
