    Default Portable DVD Repair

I needed to pick up a Portable DVD player before I leave from Colorado next weekend so I grabbed a 10" on ebay. On problem with it is the following:

..PLAYER POWERS ON AND READS DVD WITH NO PROBLEMS ,BUT HAS SOME PROBLEMS WITH THE SCREEN..IN THE NORMAL MODE THE SCREEN DISPLAY SOME VERTICAL LINES ON THE RIGH SIDE OF THE SCREEN..IF YOU PUSH THE ROTATE SCREEN BUTTON UP SIDE DOWN THE SCREEN DISPLAY THE PICTURE CORRECTLY..THIS IS WIERD BUT THAT IS HOW THE SCREEN WORKS

Here are the pics of the problem. It doesn't seem like it could be too severe and when I receive it I'll just run in down to the TV repair shop around here. But anyone have any similar problems with a similar device or such.

I don't think there is anything wrong with it, RK.

I have seen the exact same thing as in your first picture. On mine, it was caused by using 2 different programs when creating and then burning the DVD.

But I'm no TV repair expert, by a long shot!

Temporarily, go to youtube.com and search for BudgeRahe for videos. Until I get the links set up in the museum

Seen this type of display before when there's been a problem with the ribbon cables or conductive rubber blocks connecting the LCD glass panel to the driver circuit board, but I'd expect this to cause the same problem when the screen is reversed.

Could be a connection issue that is only present when the screen is in certain physical positions rather than when it's displaying in normal/rotated screen mode. The description of when the fault occurs is a bit too vague to tell.

Sometimes these kind of faults can be 'fixed' by taking the casing off the screen and then applying gentle pressure to the circuit board to see if the fault comes and goes. An offcut of some foam weatherstripping can then be fixed in the same position when reassembling.

A proper repair is likely to involve dismantling the LCD panel itself, which is not for the faint of heart!

I agree with daverob for I too was/is a repair tech. My advice.....cut your losses, chunk it and go to Wal-Mart and get a new one. Most electronics ain't worth fixin' anymore. The problem could be component level and at current labour costs could get very expensive. A friend of mine just had his surround sound receiver repaired for over $350.00. Just not worth it.
