Question TECH: newbie star wars ZF sankyo 2005 questions, help please

... i hope i'm in the correct area!

    hi,

    i am a new owner of a,
    star wars ZF sankyo 2005,
so as you can guess i'm eager to know all about it.
i found this newsgroup / forum.

i've read several posts on it, all very interesting.
i've tried various searches using key words that i feel describe what i'm looking for,
    but no joy:(
it could be that the subjects haven't been covered or the questions asked, but i can't really see that being the case.

i have a few questions, sorry if any of them are very NEWBIE like.
i hope someone is able to spare the time to reply,
    many thanks in anticipation.
here they are in no particular order....

after reading some of the posts,
i'm sorry to say that i can feel a 'cyclic mod' coming on, that would appear to be easy to do,
although it may be much harder to make it look tidy and make switchable back to it's original condition.
a DIY ball lift may also be worth looking into, belt and braces style, one can never have too many mods:)
i've not found much info on that type of mod yet, but have a few ideas.
none of which are probably new, so i would love to see other peoples attempts, to save me making the same mistakes.

as an alternative there are several post on fooling sensors, into paying out balls, , by adding momentary break switches.
this function could be mapped to the spare buttons on the front panel perhaps?
but i have a question, would this mod alter the game play in any way, would the cpu 'see' the balls being paid out and change the odds accordingly,
thus making the game play NOT as it was intended?

    what does the ZF represent?
how would i tell if mine was a a real ZF and that i just haven't been misinformed.

the chance button hasn't lit up yet, when would that come into play?
i don't think i've actually had a winning line of three similar characters yet either:(
it comes on if the dongle is removed, that's not much use is it?

my instructions sheet mention a 'ball less play button', a button on a long lead,
i guess this is a self test device,
but in the best of British tradition these isn't one to be found anywhere here
and there is no obvious un populated connecter socket where one could be plugged in,
any ideas where i start looking.

    regards,

    GaRy:)

the cell will say on the front " ZF ".

the chance button lights up for short times it is in play, as you play you will see what I am speaking of.

auto ball button is an add on i started, for those to show off their machines with out shooting balls. it is only on machines i have sold.

    Arby...
    many thanks for your reply,
glad you did so as you would apear to be the 'top dog' when it comes to Pachinco,

now you mention it, it does say, CR blah bal ZF, it also has some numbers, bonus payouts? , even though i'm not 100% sure what this means, sorry.

i live in the uk, this can't be one of your machines can it?
or has someone copied your info / instruction sheet?
or are there others doing a similar thing?
i was under the impression that it was a standard function of a pachinco machine.

I suppose it's possible that someone other than Arby got the mod from my thread, Fooling Sensors.
    That's the auto-ball mod?
I think it's safe to say that since that was posted here, other people have installed them and/or sold them with that mod.
But you mention the thread (or many threads) about fooling sensors?

    Are they both the same?

As far as wiring that mod to the front panel buttons (parlor use), those are "normally open" switches. The mod requires a "nomally closed".

I have made this mod , very easy actually with an inexpensive NC switch I bought at Radio shack.
I had a pachinko that would not pay out so I made this mod to speed up the testing. also good for a demo. With a few people who have never seen this type of machine over it is better to press the button if a ball does not hit the center pocket right away while demostrating it. I would feel stupid saying 'no really wait! it really does make noise!"

arby, logicprobe and other pachi fans,

hi guys, many thanks for your replies so far, i have a few more questions, if i may be so bold...

does activating various sensors, more often that they would in normal play, mess with the cpu and the way it pays out balls / jackpots?

have you any idea what the sensor on 3po's chest does?
a balls go through it and it causes the circle and cross led's to blink, some sort of countdown timer. if the ball goes through again it lites one of the other counter lites adds time?

is there any advantage to putting a break switch on every sensor?
i've not played this enough to know which is the best one to pick, or should i do them all?

what is the 2 digit led display to the right of the START bank of LED's, it's not the status display as that's round the back, right?

is there a technical name for the connectors on the back of the board, the ones that the sensors plug into?

so this is a ZF, what's the significance of that?

more thanks for more of your time.

    GaRy

It activates the countdown timer for your next flipper event. Now I can't say I've ever seen this actually open the flippers myself.

Right, it's not the status display on the back. This is in relation to the flippers again, does your show a number or two dashes?

so this is a ZF, what's the significance of that?
ZF is the model and the significance is the payout varies with each model. Some also have a different background.

If its not broke in the first place why fix it?? Some little Japanese guys spent ages making these inter stellar machines and the challenge is in getting them to pay out/go in to fever mode isnt it? I wouldnt dream of assaulting my SW with a soldering iron, the force may leave me forever!!! Patience is something that master Yoda would prescribe, patience and practice. Not saying we shouldnt add "mods" just do it to naff machines not the holly grails. Long live the Ewoks !!!!

As long as the mod is done with care and planning it would not detract from the machine and would be revesable. I should post pic's of the mod on mine it is hard to see. and others have used pinball buttons so it looks like it belongs there.

Indeed I would expect Yoda to encourage us to journey along the right path in order to fully experience and appreciate the mighty Force................

Although there are others who wish to take a somewhat different path - Darth Vader - for example........

Although I am unsure as to whether he was actually equipped with a Soldering Iron?

If anyone wants an auto play button for their star wars, but doesn't want to take a soldering iron to their machine. I could make a plug and play version, that would just require unplugging the start pocket sensor and plugging a new switch button harness between the plug and socket.

I could even make it so that you could use the front panel card reader buttons to trigger the autoplay, but that would be a bit more expensive as it would need a new dongle as well.

I haven't given this much though but I'd expect the harness on it's own would run to about $5, harness complete with an arcade style microswitch button $10 and about $20 for the harness connected to a replacement dongle to allow you to use the front panel buttons.

Should also work with any other Sankyo Lumina or Victory frame machine, and possibly other makes (though I'd need to check to see if the connectors are the same).

If anyone's interested, let me know, and I'll order the components to make a batch and stick them up on the auction site.

Did you ever find out what that (--) display signifies? I recall mine showing IE and IC during fever mode. I expected it to show numbers, when it showed what appeared to be hexidecimal... I got curious.

Well you see I received my Julie cell that fits in the Lumina case. So it's in there at the moment. Star Wars is naked at this time.

Thanks, in another thread (How / when do flippers...) someone says the display is linked to the ball pass-through sensor for some "roulette" function. I know mine doesn't seem to do this. Mine only seemed to show odd characters ( I recall IE and IC) during fever and I never could tell what they signified.

    Thanks, how is Julie?

The pass thru pocket on the left. You can bank 4 spins of this 'roulette'. The 'X' and 'O' are no and yes. If it stops on 'O', the tulip opens for a second.

    *** UNSOLICITED OPINION WARNING ***

I prefer all my pachinkos in "parlor ready" mode so...

Buy Daverob's dongle and smartcard option
    Buy Arby's ball lifter
