    Default Macy Machine - Eve

Just picked up an older Macy machine called Eve.. looking for some help i need either a cylinder key or the lock if anyone has one that will fit.. Below pixs of lock...
2nd question is one of the reels sticks (hesitates). it works fine once it starts spinning. if i switch reels, the trouble follows to the new reel... so the trouble is not the reel & i cleaned the contacts in the plug the best i can....
If anyone has any info or parts, it would be a great help... thanks....

If you find locks like that, I need several too! Some locksmiths can decode the lock and make a key. Found a service on Ebay, just haven't found the time to send it away.

How much does the reel hesitate? It may be normal.

I would think the reel hesitation is normal as well. Some machines seem to do it more than others.
    and a few others.

the other 2 wheels start spinning right away but the middle one sometimes will start within a couple of seconds or other times it just jumps an 1/8 inch repeatedly until it starts...

If it still plays otherwise normally, I'd not worry about it.

I see, didn't know it mis-aligned too. And it dosen't seem to be the reel mech? Have you cleaned/checked for bent-missing pins on both ends of the reel cables (including the cable that goes from the set of reels to the controller)?

How about the reel position sensor? is it dirty?

This is my personal opinion, or of the voices in my head, and are not meant to reflect the opinion of this board.

if the problem persists in the same position when you swapped the reels then its not the sensor . the wiring is most likely at fault . try flexing the plug on that reel position back and forth while the reel is sticking if the reel picks up and runs (you'll here a series of clicks come from the reel stop board when it acquires its position and reaches proper rpm) its most likely a broken pin not making contact . have had this problem many times on vintage machines .especially those that may have had their reels changed alot like they were used in an arcade .aligning the reels is fruitless in these machines the sensor is what the machine goes by for positioning so it will realign with each spin .much like if you try to set the timing on a newer car to advance it the computer will then just retard it to run on its programing .if the sensor wiring has a broken pin it wont acquire and you'll have a sticking problem till the pin jiggles into contact and then it acquires and spins.also you might have a broken pin on the wiring for the motor leads this usually sounds like a vibration coming from the motor like its jammed but in reality its not a stepper motor doesn't run like a normal motor instead of having just one field winding it has three and by rotating the power to each winding it progresses the motor one step in a revolution and stops it right where it wants it at a particular position .

Do you experts think some very careful lubing might help?

    BTW, I'm no expert!

alstonj1 i think you are on to something...i have checked & cleaned all of the connectors... no matter which reel is in position 2 that is the one that does not spin correctly... i have traced the wires back to the motherboard & a board mounted on the right side on the cabinet next to the reels... since you say the reel motor is 3 phase i am thinking that one of the phases is not working and thats why the reel jumps until it finally starts to spin or i give it a push...can any confirm that if one of the field winding wires is not working that this might happen...

if you have traced the wires back then ring thouugh the wire to the connector on the destination board inside the machine . pierce each wire with your meter probe then put a small piece of wire on the other probe and put it in the connector going into the board and see if it rings trrough the reel connector on the ohm scale if it does it should give a very low reading under 10 ohm perferably under 1 ohm . if it doesnt then you've found your problem . and yes a loose or intermittent wire to the motor can cause the reel to studder and then pick up and run .

heres a url that explains stepper motors in basic theory

Back to your lock question, You can pull the cylinder pins and use any keyblank to open the lock. Do you need to lock it or just use to open? Arby has a write up on pulling the lock pins. I just did my Sindbad last night.
Handy info I have 2 slots converted. 1 did not have a key 1 broke shortly after I bought it As-is.

You do it when YOU are ready. I can wait. I bid again on that huge Betty Topper that was relisted. It went last night for $242.50, well over my bid. It's a good thing or you would probably have that sitting around your house too
