Default Time for a flood of machines?

Just read this article from the Japan Times:

    http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-b...0061001t1.html

A second issue relates to the size of machine payouts. Concerned that payouts were getting out of hand, the authorities recently revised regulations to ban a high-paying machine called a pachi-suro (pachinko-slot), which is played using medals resembling coins. Some 2 million existing machines must be phased out by June 2007, and replacing them will impose heavy cost burdens, particularly on already hurting small operators.
Two MILLION machines will be phased out? By June of next year??
So... will these be scrapped, or dumped to the aftermarket?
I gotta get me a bigger gameroom!

Maybe just the ones that pay out to many tokens.

    Like the type C models.

sounds like they will be going back to an A type machine with smaller payouts more often rather than the modern B and C type machines

I hope we see some and they don't send to the grinders. Of wait B machines like MG, nevermind recycle them.

Question Re: Time for a flood of machines?

It's interesting that their concern with pachi-suro is the size of the payout, since the redemption value of the medals is something like 37% less than what it costs to rent them (thanks to compirate for those stats). The whole idea of the game is to win more medals than you rent, but medals aren't legal tender. Why should they care if a scant few lucky players end up with a wheelbarrow load of medals while the others go home with a box of detergent?

This seems to be analogous to pachinko payout, very small regular payouts with a huge payout in a fever round. I think of it like the lottry, it inspires people to put good money in after bad hoping to cash in on the big prize.
I hope they don't change up our pachinkos and eliminate the large payouts.

I see where your going greg.
Pavlov's dog, thats a conditioned response to stimuli. I was thinking of the carrot on a stick analogy no actual reward just the stimulus placed just out of reach.
We have a student worker here his name is Pavlov, I call him drooly dog when he is bad. hehe Nice kid, he thinks its funny.

Maybe they were trying to get ahead of the new law by coming out with the palots.

    Ahhh good point! very clever!
coins are evil = gambeling thats why they are called medals or tokens, no value right! no illegal gambeling! oh that didn't work ok then we will use cards or balls then, see nothing illegal here! it seems our friends in Japan have been skirting the law a little too close.

Read the report here, it talks about what Sankyo is doing/has done about the pachinko law changes from a year or two ago (which seem like a good thing to me, more different/fun machines) and the upcoming pachislo law changes (which seem could either lead to new innovations, or just new boring machines).

    http://www.pachitalk.com/forums/show...ghlight=sankyo

(the first half is the interesting part.)

I know the new pachislo laws have been mentioned on PT before...

This is interesting because they way im reading this report, it states people have moved away from playing pachi due to the expense and having to play buckets of tokens, ball bearings in to hit the big one (bit like my Sinbad Adventure, its all or nothing isnt it?) . The theory of cheaper play by offering smaller frequent wins with innovative game play, could be the reason for the law change. This law change in my opinion could be fitting in with the fact its not so much about morality of gambling (whoops not gambling is it, hire of tokens balls) but to encourage people back into playing by making it cheaper. Lets face it, more people playing, more tax (i assume Japan has VAT etc) so in the long run the government make more money in tax and the parlours, sellers are happy. And as rightly stated, why not just make the tokens/bearings cheaper to hire?? Perhaps they are looking for better standardisation, smaller payouts on all, so there wont be A, B or C types, it will all be one type. Law changes are not normally geared around morality, they are normally about lining somebodys pocket which is normally for the benefit of the government, or somebody in the business who is a sponsor to the government (if you live in the UK you will know where im coming from - cash for peerages!) . I am a conspiracy theorist, and a rebel...but this new change in my opinion sucks with a capital S.

and over here in good old England - UK.........................

    Higher Jackpots for Fruit Machines
The Government is to allow the maximum stakes and Jackpot prizes for some fruit machines to increase.

Jackpots of £25 for gaming machines in Pubs, Clubs and Arcades may be raised to an upper limit of £35.

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport said maximum permitted stakes can go up from 30p to 50p from October 27.

Also under a new code of conduct all machines must display GamCare Charity's helpline number and clear signs banning under 18's.

Jackpot Machines in Bingo Halls, Betting Shops and Registered Clubs can raise their stakes to £1, and their maximum prizes will remain at either £250 or £500.
