    Question Star Wars Sound Question

    Morning all!

You may remember a little while ago I asked whether anyone else experienced distorted sound on their Star Wars Pachinko, especially at low volumes. The general opinion was that some people did and some didnt - and it was suggested by Arby that I try some new volume controls from Syscom:

    http://www.pachislo.com/pachislo/par...il/volume.html

I ordered the 5 piece set $15 and it arrived yesterday - very speedy service :o)

I was about to fit it this morning, however I noticed that theinstructions with the new volume kit advise to fir on the positive (+) connection to the speaker. This is what I would have expected.

Is positive (+) the red wire?

I say this, because the existing fitted volume control is fitted to the white wire.

Could anyone confirm whether red is positive, and confirm whether I should fit the new volume control to the red wire. If so, I will remove the volume control and re-join the white wire.

Is this likely to have caused the distortion?

Once again, many thanks for your help - I really appreciate it. Without such a group of friendly and helpful group of people, I wouldnt be enjoying this new hobby as much as I am ;O)

If anything in my questions does not make sense, or you need clarification, please ask.

    Thanks again,

    Mark ;o)

I'm sure there's some great tech-head answer to this question but I've never noticed it making a bit of difference which side you spliced into.

Thanks Tulsa, that would make sense.

Ive sort-of answered my own question - Ive taken the speakers out of the machine, and it seems red is positive and white is negative.

When I fit my new volume controls, I think I will fit on the positive wire as this is what the instructions said - however any more commenst would be greatfully recieved!

    Kind regards,

    Mark

I have used both the red and the white. Like Tulsa said, I have noticed no difference. Just cut the wire and solder it to the pot. Simple. Even I can do it.

This method of volume control simply adds resistance, in series, with the speaker. It shouldn't matter which side of the speaker it is connected to... and I'm sure the electrons won't mind.

    Hi everyone,
Thanks for the replies - I have used the red wires, but at least I know for future that it doesnt really matter. I must admit, the volume kit was very simple to install and works perfrectly.

Thanks Arby for the great recommendation!

    Best wishes,
