    Smile Direct tv called

Direct Tv called today and offered me HD for my TV I told them I wasn't intrested,

then she said if I promised to continue with them she would give me $10.00 off my bill each month for the next 6 months

I guess they are losing customers to other companies, but I'm happy with what I have

Lucky is it Direct TV or Dish Network that can get programs from Japan by installing a second dedicated dish? That might be something worth looking into as we know they have programs dediacted to our hobby. You might even be able to watch that guy called Teru introduce all the new pachis

Actually I have been thinking about having both Direct TV and Dish installed when I get into my new house. But the NFL ticket may have to wait as it would be a waste for me because I would miss half of the Sundays since I am seeing NFL Profootball up close in person here. But I guess I could get my 2 DVR's putting everything on their hardrives for replay later. Hmmm that might be the "ticket"

Dish rocks! Dish Network's biggest advantage is the free Dish DVR that records up to 100 hours of programming. The second biggest advantage is price. Dish Network beats DIRECTV in pricing, too.

As far as football goes, Dish Network broadcasts as many as 231 NFL pre-season, regular season and post-season playoff games without having to purchase a costly season package subscription... I don't miss too many games that I really want to watch.

I've had dish for many years and most of my friends who used to have DirecTV have made the switch to Dish.

Also, maybe Tulsa would be interested as Dish Network has access to the following cities that Direct TV does not: Albuquerque, NM; Grand Rapids, MI; Honolulu, HI and Oklahoma City, OK.

I already get my locals on DirecTv. I had dish 7 years ago before I switched. I will never go back to dish network. The Sunday Ticket is awesome. Now you get 30 minute games. They have two channels that cut out the commercials and the huddles and everything but the pure football, play by play. Watch the whole game in 30 minutes.

If you're as big a fan of NFL as I am, it's a must. The DVR I have is an HD DVR and does 200 hours, records two while watching another. There's nothing that Dish offers I can't get with DTV and I certainly get things from DTV I can't get on DISH.

    Ok I'll bite !

How much is the Japanese package on Direct TV? That way I will have no use for Dish then.

Also i am interested in seeing local broadcasts that slotter brought up like that are available on Dish like Albuquerque, NM; Grand Rapids, MI; Honolulu, HI and Oklahoma City, OK. and LA if available.

Let me rephrase, there's nothing on Dish I'd bother paying for that I can't get on DirecTV. Junk tv withstanding.

Other than seeing silly local commercials, why would you want to watch the same shows on someone elses local channel? Since I record everything, I don't watch the commercials anyway. I rarely even watch network tv either.

History channel, A&E, HBO Boxing and some movies, ESPN, NFL Channel, TLC and sometimes TVLand for those nostalgia moods. That's about the extent of my tv viewing. I can get this equally on either except for the NFL Sunday Ticket.

I'm sorry, as much as I like their toys, watching Japanese TV interests me not even slightly. Neither do I wish to watch Aljazera TV or Budapest Tonight.

I think it would be kinda interesting if and only if they would happen to carry a couple of Japanese channels I have heard of in that Japanese package. I do agree on the Aljazera and Budapest tho

I guess the answer for me may be to get both Direct TV and Dish and then after their initial contracts run ou,t decide if I want to keep one or both. I have to get that house first tho as my tiny townhouse right now can hardly handle what equipment I have here now.

So Slotter needs to get the Japanese package on his Dish so I can see if I would want it or not down the road

I hate DirectPC! It stinks. But, where I live it's the only high speed internet available. In fact, now that you mention that (I'd momentarily forgotten!) it is one more reason not to buy DirecTV.

Today, btw, DirectPC goes by Hughes.net.

I will totally agree that directpc sucks. Two dial-up modems taped together can give you as fast a connection!

Broadband to them is they use that red-headed broad to do their commercials!

I keep hoping someone will get wireless out here. There is DSL only about 1/2 mile away, too, but it doesn't have the umph or power to get the addl. 1/2 mile to me. One day, I'll be able to get rid of the satellite internet.

Plus, it isn't cheap. $69.95 a month and I had to purchase $600 worth of equipment to get the honor to pay them that.

Beats the heck out of dialup, though..............

I have DirectV and like it somewhat....we have had words....My brother has Dish and he likes it.....I get all the sport packages NFL, MLB and NHL and watch 99% of the games I want to see, when I can't watch a game it is because of FOX blocking it out..not DTV. So, whats the best deal on HD receivers lately?
Pachislos: Alien, Azteca Returns, Death Valley, Guts, Gamera HGV, Hokuto No Ken, Jet Set Radio, Mephisto, Oasis, Speed Racer, Surprise, Twenty Seven, Thunderbirds, Wild Wolf

I use the HDTivo I got from Bestbuy, you can get it cheaper directly from DirecTV though. When I was setting it up, they let me know that and rebated me the difference I paid to Bestbuy. Fantastic customer service as far as I'm concerned.

It's an easy switch between HD and Digital 4x3. I have a set that natively does both 16x9 and 4x3 so it's a real joy. It will do 720P as well as 1080I. If your set can support 720P it's the way to go. No interlacing.

After owning 3 TiVo's, I can't say I'd ever watch tv without one. It's now a must have. The HD model is really very good. I had a Sony before this one and it always had issues with resetting itself..
