Default Found cheap vintage to experiment on!

I have been looking for a vintage machine to experiment on, I want to find a cure for the water stains or an easy coverup. I used bidnapper to get an old Nisijin with semicyclic play for $7.50
seven fifty, pocket change! cheaper than gagage sale prices. I almost hope it is in rough shape, I have a habit of saving instead of experimenting. the last vintage I bought as parts I restored.
    Cheers,

Good luck to you. You're going to have fun trying to get rid of those stains. They've been leached into under the formica laminate of the original old playfields, usually a leachate created by the pachinko cleaners soaking the surface with a liquid that leaks below the surface and in turn corrodes the nails, which corrosion then precipitates into the wood and paint under the formica.

Without removing the formica, you'd have to find another substance which would penetrate the wood near the nail holes that bleaches the precipitate (but doesn't also corrode the nails).

I believe the nails are barbed so they are hard to remove from the playfield.

You could repaint and recoat the surface of the playfield, creating new art for the machine.

Personally, I like the stain, it reminds me how old and how well used the "old" machines were before they were put out to pasture.

I have one stained and one not, I prefer the look of cleaner one, the cleaner one was sold as parts and did not recieve the auction cleanup that damages these old machines.
I am thinking of trying a tinted shellac test and a laquer experiment.
The end of the nails I have seem are spiral, the hardware term is ardox. nice thing is a counterclockwise twist and pull will release the nail.
I want to avoid pulling nails but might have to.
anyone know of any other things I might try?
I don't think any cleaning solutions will work as this is how the stains were caused. I hope to lighten the effects of the stains. bleach ? might try in a small area.

    news update; seller is lame.
sent email to request shipping cost so can pay for the thing.
4 days later I get this as a reply:

hello. will weigh and calculate. thanks

that was 2 days ago. I don't think the seller as real happy with the price I bid/won. I offerded a small handeling fee for the shipping. I have not been able to pay as I don't have a total yet. seller is tecnobooks

    Update,2:
The seller finally sent an invoice, something like 2 week after I won it. $20 flat to ship a $7.50 machine, sounded good to me. Ihope they send it quicker that they reply to emails. I might get it for thanksgiving, maybe Valentines day??
This is the worst ebayer I have seen. Do I dare leave truthful feedback? I am building this account and have few feedback so I would get stung with a negative retalitory feedback.

Thats a real problem isn't it? You leave an honest feed back for him telling everyone what you did not like about the transaction and the seller will get you back. If you want to stay at 100 percent you will not ever be able to tell the truth about bad transactions unless he steals from you and then it can take weeks to months to get that bad feedback he leaves for you taken off by Ebay.

Not to say the guy doesn't have poor communication, but I looked up your auction, and you won the machine on the afternoon of 11th, so the guy isn't all that late yet. Just a week so far and he probably did have to take some time to calculate shipping cost, which at $20, is very fair. He also has 61 100% feedback and some nice comments from other buyers.

I wouldn't leave him bad feedback, especially as you only have 3 feedbacks yourself and it will hurt you if he responds the same to you.

Be a bit patient and I'll bet you'll be satisfied in the end.

Here is the auction for anyone who wants to take a look at SH's vintage machine: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=270025668757

I do tend to get impatient, But I never had as long of a wait in a transaction before.
I am hoping for the best I will wait until I recieve the oldy before I leave feedback.
The sellers other items seem to be yarn, maybe the yarn crowd is a little more slow to do buisiness with.

It's rare that a seasoned eBay buyer will leave negative feedback and even rarer that a seasoned seller would leave negative feedback. Something irrecoverable that eBay would back you up on would have to happen to have me leave negative feedback. When you read some comments, you realize just what children some of these buyer/sellers can be, so it's a good indication that you may be headed for trouble if they can't resist the urge to leave negative feedback.

Now that being said, it doesn't make the eBay Feedback system really very representative, and I would hate to have someone here not hear that the vendor they are purchasing from has problems.

From my perspective, if a problem is solved in the transaction, then it was a positive transaction. My experience has been that if you attract negative feedback (without leaving negative feedback first), then you likely are a concern, even if you don't realize it yourself.

If the machine arrives in decent shape, I would give a positive, but say transaction time and shipping was a little slow. both sides win that way.

Lucky you have more experience than I on this. Do you feel if he leaves great feedback for the seller yet states there were problems with the transaction within the feedback that the seller will leave slothappy good feedback? Or will he just not leave slothappy feedback?

I noticed that SlotUsa left slothappy immediate great feedback right after payment. Also another seller did the same (apparently those two sellers know that customer service will get them the feedback they deserve). So there are still sellers on Ebay that recognize that your job as a buyer is done because you paid them.

I always leave feedback very soon after I am paid or recieve the items.

Some people never bother either way. You can always leave a rebuttal on neutral or negative feedback given you.

I hate giving negatives because of rebuttal, I usually give a neutral if I'm not happy.

Since the account is so new and you don't want to risk the seller trashing it just don't leave anything at all. This is what I did when I first started using e-bay again. If the transaction was good I said so. If it wasn't I did not say anything. Once your account is more established then you can leave honest feedback. For now pretend you in the army, keep your head and down.

I thank all of you for the feedback, I will leave an honest feedback, It is only right, If the item arrives in good shape or at all I will be positive as the seller delivered the goods as promised, I will not fault the seller, they probably feel that they wasted their time on a $7.50 sale it is only fair and I will keep this in mind.
I was a little worried they would try to back out of the sale because of the lack of monetary incentive.

Note: I did offer a small handeling fee to offset the low sale price. I am an Ogre, not a troll.

My wife and I sell and buy a bunch on eBay. We've never gotten nor given a bad feedback and we have been on eBay since August of 1997 with well over 1000 100% positive feedbacks. There have been times we've been somewhat tempted to leave a negative, but have always been able to work it out.

Hang in there, this auction will turn out well is my prediction.
