I really like this design. The thing that impresses me most is it's simplicity.

I've just finished putting together a prototype for a ball stop design for my cabinets, which is made of a dozen custom cut plastic pieces, a load of nuts and bolts and a couple of springs, and requires a minimum of three hands to assemble all of the bits.

This design has just convinced me that mine might be just a tiny bit over-engineered, and it could be a good idea to just start again with something along the lines of this one.

Thanks Daverob, I can relate to designs being "over-engineered". I made quite a few before I settled on this one. I had to set limits for myself in thinking that the right design should be easy for anyone to make with little skill, tools or materials and it shouldn't take away from the beauty or functionality of the cabinet itself. With that in mind, I had to axe all of them. Either they required welding metal pieces together or involved complicated mods to the cabinet that just would not work with the multitude of cabinet designs out there. One that I made out of a sink stop for a bathroom sink was quite interesting.

Thanks again for the compliment, I appreciate it.

This (if remembered to use) would reduce the oh SH** effect a rain of steel balls all over would have. I like the simplicity, I have a tendency to either over simplify or way over engineer.

I agree Slotthappy. Now if I can just remember to close the ball dump before trying to fill the machine I'd be all set.

Thanks again Mr G for posting this for everyone!

I thought I would add a few teaser pics for the ball drop guide I am working on. Again, it's very simple. One hole cut, one saw cut and two pieces of pipe and you're done. It make look a bit extreme for a simple drop, but it's all part of "the big picture". These are all just small parts of a bigger plan to make the entre design a self feeding system. More to come!

    Very slick and simple!

If anyone's interested, here's what they use in Japan. Got one, but without the ball sensor or spring thingy.

Just mounts to the tabletop behind the machine. You need a hole in the table for the balls to go to a recovery tray or ball lifter. It's adjustable for any machine - x, y and z plus the tray is expandable. It can be set up so the ball exits on the left or the right. The sensor connects to the battle counter and I guess counts plays so you can tell how well your doing.

Got it from a company in Japan, about $25 plus shipping. Have made a similar item from 1/4 ply.

Sorry for the delay in the ball return guide. I'll get to it after I'm done with my snack bar. There are just not enough hours in the day. But, I am almost done. I just need to formica the top and paint the rest. I figure I'll get it up by this weekend sometime.

    Thanks Tulsa,

I figured after working on my arcade for the past couple of years, it was time I started posting some of my work and give back to the community by making up a few guides. (I admit, I was shy about posting my unfinished work when there are so many amazing finished products.) Let's face it, you can't upload cool stuff with a standard avatar, so I had to do something about it. Notice it's a star wars with a gamera high grade in the back? I probably should have made it a spin luck or a dragon dice

Thanks for the compliment and for the help with the auctions. Everything is working great!

I got my snack bar finished and I am currently working on a few videos for DIY Pachinko mods. (IE. the simple ball stop and ball return) I should have them up shortly, so feel free to check out my snack bar video while you wait. I'll post another message when I get the pachi videos up with links.

I had quite a few snags in getting the snack bar done, so it took me a bit longer than expected. But, I'm happy with the way it came out. Not as cool as the ackbar snackbar I had designed, but it's still pretty cool to me. It's also a lot deeper than I wanted, but it still fits great! I swear I could put about 18 cases of soda (or beer) on each shelf (two shelves) so that gives you an idea of how deep it actually is! I also got a betty boop slot to fill that empty space in between the gamera and the godzilla. I also added the silver brackets to two of the three pachinkos on the other side. It's really coming along! I just wish a I had a few more hours in each day.

I have a few things to clear out that I'll be ebaying soon as well. My jukebox, the bubble front coke machine and a 14 select mechanical vending machine I restored. Maybe I'll throw them up on an auction here, but I don't think a lot of people would want to ship these very heavy items across the globe.

But the good news is, I'm almost done with all the construction and it will give me a chance to get to the art portion of the design. I have about 50 original movie posters to put up. Some of the posters I have are Wizards, full set of the peter jackson King Kong, American Pop, A couple of rare gold studio posters of spiderman 2 and alien vs predator (both numbered 369), The land that time forgot, Creepshow, Grizzly and an autographed twilight zone the move. Just to name a few. At least my mylar lightbox is already built.

Once I get most of the art up in the arcade, I'll begin construction of the entertainment center design I made. It will have lots of dvd storage with back lighting for movie posters on the doors. Of course, I'll make a video of the construction.

Thanks Dattia, I'll try to keep the rest as interesting. To me, I feel that the music makes you want to watch the video, so that's what I was going for.

And sorry for the huge pics.. I'm away from the site for a month and already forgot how to attach pictures right. I'll blame it on the turley overload.
