    Default Machine Cabinet Recess

After looking at pictures of different pachinko cabinets on this site, I have concluded that how far the machine is recessed into the cabinet is not consistent. Some makers have the pachinko frame even with the frame of the cabinet, which means the door protrudes from the cabinet a bit, such as in Youngjedi's journal. Others recess the frame so that the door is even with the cabinet frame, such as the cabinet Stringray just completed.

Is one method of cabinet recess better than the other?

I would think it would be easier to open the glass and full door with the machine sticking out a little.

We used YoungJedi's Journal Plans - and this has worked very well for us,

Perhaps it's just a personal preference issue?

As you noticed, the one I just built has the door flush with the cabinet. This doesn't cause anything to bind. The door swings out all the way as does the machine itself. Also in my opinion, this just looks neater. -S

With ours being the Star Wars in the White Lumina Case - we have thought about using some White Iron-on Tape along the small edges of wood at the bottom sides of the Machine to give a neater finish...

I would assume that the unit would be mounted so that the door can swing open, but none of the side would be showing (more or less flush).

Actually, there is meant to be a shelf sticking out under the machines at the level of the bottom of the machine (for a Parlour ready machine). That is where you put your plastic pachinko tray, it sits underneath the ball overflow tray; when you are winning a fever, you stream balls from the overflow tray into the ball tray, from there an attendant comes and politely takes your full trays and puts them behind your seat until you are ready to cash out.

At least, that's how it works at our house.

FYI : if you are ever going to do the sides do them first, then the front, trim back to the sides then add a slight bevel. if the wookie does only the front then trim to the sides and bevel only. do the tops last. A router with a trim bit is fast and neat. trim bit = straight bit with a bearing the same dia. as cutters.

I have mounted all of my machines flush with the cabinets, the hinges are made so the machines can be mounted flush and still open.

This isn't the best pic, but it's what I had handy.

I can take better pics if needed, just ask.

I think flush looks best, we can mount any machine this way as long as the centerline of the hinge is beyond the case. So it will pivot out and around, check max opening as this will be diminished the further into the case the machine is set.

Very nice, now are you going to paint that hinge the same color as the cabinet when it's finished?

I thought of recessing the Machine, but I liked the dimensional look the entire set up had with the machine "sticking out" a little. Also, after everything was done, I went back and added black electrical tape to the surrounding areas of wood that showed. It created a nice framed in look and helped seperate the Machine from the cabinet.

Leaving a little exposed makes fitting things a little easier, it is like when trimming windows I leave a 1/4" 'reveal' on the extension jamb. It also adds a bit of depth to the look,
Hmm, Either I locked up or my other post was dumped.
