    Default Yet another pachinko cabinet

I put this together over the weekend. I couldn't resist test fitting it. This is my first crack at building a pachinko cabinet. I'm pretty happy with how it's turning out. After quite a bit of filling and sanding, I plan to paint it bright yellow to match the pachi. The balls will fall into a container on the shelf below. This cabinet will be attached to the wall, there will be no danger of it tipping forward.

The top will be hinged to allow balls to be loaded. Below is inside the top.

More pictures to come after I get it painted.

Looks great!!! Think about making sure the wooden top ball bin does not have any areas which might release splinters into the machine's ball tray as they will eventually work their way into the ball ramps and jam the game. Use a rasp and file to round the edges to minimize splintering. Polyurethane paint makes a great sealer and prevents wood splintering.

Thanks for the kind words, all!

Bilko- My intention was to sand the entire area inside the ball chute to remove any trace of splinters & make it all nice and smooth. I still have a few more fiddly bits to add before the chute is finished. I didn't intend to paint that area at all. I assumed that the possibility of getting paint chips inside the machine would be a worse prospect than splinters. Opinions?

    Stingray,

Sanding and smoothing will probably eliminate splintering issues. You could line the ball contact surfaces with lexan plastic sheeting and never have a wear concern at all.

FYI: Sanding sealer will help the paint flow and seal the pitch around the knots.
It will make a nicer finished paint job

As Mr. Burns from The Simpsons would say, "excellent!"

Did you use a roller or spray paint?

I used a small foam roller. The cabinet has three coats of yellow tinted primer/ sealer, which I block sanded between coats. Then it got three coats of the yellow paint, which I went over lightly with steel wool between coats. Considering that I rolled it, I'm very pleased with the final result.

Looks really nice Stingray! I like the fact that it is a full cabnet style. When are you going to post the plans?

I don't have any plans as such, but I have a somewhat rough diagram that I threw together in Illustrator before I got started. I could probably clean that up a bit and post a PDF of it if there's interest.

There is a new section in the museum called cabinetry 101. It is a place just for palns, diagrams, pics, etc. of cabinet making.
We figured it would be a good idea to put all these in one place, so everyone can check them out when making their own.
Let me know if you want a folder to post your stuff.

This is my personal opinion, or of the voices in my head, and are not meant to reflect the opinion of this board.
