Default Glad to be playing tokens on Sinbad, the perils of gambling

I like that statement, gambling only pays when youre winning. I had a holiday last week on the Isle of Wight, for our US/Worldwide friends, its a little island off of Portsmouth (home of the Royal Navy). Its very lost in time and reminds me of where i live in the 80's. Anyway, the amusement arcades have a lot of old machines in them, one armed bandits (ballys of all things), Allwin Flickballs, aristrocrats etc. I shovelled a load of 10p's into them, the nostaligia was great when i got a win but then noticed an 18 only area where the big boys were playing. I quickly lost £30!, its so easy to get hooked on these gambling machines and the poster made me laugh by these machines. It warned about the perils of gambling (how ironic) and how it can damage families!. Smarting from my loss and murmuring expletives, i looked around me and saw the amount of wonga people were changing up for the chance to win some cash (how futile with 70% odds), £10/£20 notes being changed and then changed again. I started to fill quite sad for them, but then again i was sad myself for getting lured by the flashing lights like a moth hovering around a porch light. HOW GLAD was I to get home and go on my Sinbad Adventure where i could pay for free and i got more of a buzz from winning knowing that i played to a certain extent the right moves by some skill to get a win. I know not so long back on here people posted about converting their pachislos to coinage, having seen how quick it is to lose real money, how these people in the arcade were losing so much, gambling can become a disease. Just dont go there, stick to your pachislo and enjoy the buzz for free.

p.s. did u know that if a gambling machine pays 70% it works like this.
You put in One Pound, or one dollar, it will in theory pay back 70pence/Cents.

You put back in the 70pence/cents and you get back 41pence/cents, and so on.
See how quick you lose. Also be warned on gambling machines, if you have a win displayed on the screen and you go for double/lose, the win you were offered counts towards the percentage even if you lose.

Some people just don't get it. They look at me like I am nuts for owning 'slots' and ask why? I tell them I like to play but hate to gamble. I worked at a tribal casino while attending college and saw too many people spend grocery , rent, all their money at the tables. Actually I hate to lose. and even with 98% payback the odds are that I will lose. I also am a gadget addict. I like the reels, I would not own an all LCD slot machine, I need to see the reels spin. I like the vintage Pachinko's the mechanical complexity amuses me. The simplicity also amuses me.
The way I feel is if everyone were like us them how would we be special?

    slothappy144 :

Were you the one that told us about all the paper tickets with just 5 cents etc left on them that people would leave because they didn't want them? We must of found 20.00 worth of them in Vegas! We either played them or when we were leaving the casino we cashed them in with our other paper tickets! I can't believe people would leave them like that. I have noticed that here in the Indian Casinos also. But I bet if they had an nickle they wouldn't leave it ....

It was not me but I can see it happening, like the bottle law, ten cent per can, toss a can but get 20 or so and it starts looking like real money.
I worked back in the old days, they did not allow slots back then it was BlackJack, Poker (my area) and 'the wheel'. imagine a spinluck wheel with different cash payouts. lame.
