I saw these online review are that the speakers are junk but icture is fine, just don't use the speakers.
thanks for the office depot link I can go look at the image quality myself this way.
    700:1 contrast, 8ms, 1280x1024, and $109, all great numbers.

I'm in for one of these for my daughter's computer. She has been wanting an LCD for awhile.

When the monitor was in the online shopping cart, it showed estimated taxes as $0.00, but when the order was placed, taxes were added to the total. Shipping is free, though. Total cost shipped to me $215.24 and then I'll get $100 off that price with the rebate.

Reading several reviews on the monitor at Amazon.com, it was well rated by the three people who did the ratings.

Thanks for finding this one, Lucky!

They added tax so they must have a store in your state. Being Office Depot, that makes sense.

FYI: for those of you looking for PC parts and want to get a good price ceckout pricewatch.com to get quick prices on what your looking for, but buyer beware this is a non vendor specific search, some non english speaking shops might show up in the search.
Nextag.com is great with reviews and price history graph.

My 15 ich LCD from this will go on my old computer in the kitchen.

and my old 13 Inch regular moniter will be retired

I just got back from Office Depot where they had the HANNS 191D 19" Widescreen version on display with the same specs as the two monitors mentioned by Luckydog. I have studied the specs and read various reader reviews from several sites.

Several reviews said the picture was great but the speakers were cruddy. Some said it was a good buy at 200 bucks and a bargain at 110. But the review that bothered me was the reader who noted that text resolution was poor and edge definition suffered from ghosting and color shifts.

The Hanns 191D looked good when displaying images and graphics. The aquarium screen saver they run in the OD store looked good except it lacked the brightness of of some of the other units on display.

When I asked the sales rep to show a text display on the unit, I was shocked! The monitor displayed black text as more gray than black and letters such as "m, n and T" had obvious shifts to red and green. Other low end LCD displays also showed this shifting. When I pointed this out to the sales rep he said he had never noticed the text color problem until I mentioned it to him.

More than likely, the problem was with the signal distribution amp they had the 12 monitors running from. I wasn't impressed with the text resolution but I hasten to say that this more than likely won't be an issue with the Hanns units if the monitor is running straight from the CPU.

If you can try before you buy, I suggest you take a trip to Office Depot and look for yourself.

Were you able to play with the controls on this unit when you were there? They boast a 700:1 contrast which should darken the blacks nicely if that is a true figure.

I ordered mine online for free home delivery, they won't get it here till the 24th. I guess they don't have any locally

the rebate expires the 20th of aug. and then you have a month to send it in.

I contacted Circuit City and they said it was ordered the 17th, so it doesn't matter if i get it later.

I noted that 700:1 contrast and that was one of the stats that made me go for it. My fancy Dell 21" monitor has less contrast than this one. It is also DVI which should make it very sharp with the proper video card.

No, I did not get to adjust the controls. There were five tiny buttons (each about the size of an eraser head) located on the side of the monitor bezel. They were the same color as the rest of the case and my poor eyes could not make out their function as no distinct labels or impressions were visible.

I know that displays of monitors in stores can get out of adjustment by twiddlers and fiddlers in no time. Hopefully the contrast setting could be boosted to gain a darker text with greater edge shapness.

I learned a few tricks when I learned how to setup home theatre systems. Some of the info applies to PC monitors.

this might not apply to LCD's but LCD's are vulnerable to some 'burn in'
Manufactures know big box stores lineup all the monitors (and tv's) and run a common signal to them, WE look at them and notice the brightest sharpest one and think, this one looks better.
The manufactures send TV's and monitors with the contrast jacked up and a little too bright. CRT's and tv's would "burn in" too soon becasue we would not adjust the settings down for our home viewing enviroment. 80% contrast is 'contrast safe' and would add significant life to a CRT or TV.
If anyone has a home theatre system borrow or purchase the DVD setup guide, it is amazing and adds much knowledge to the setup of your high $$ equipment.
