    Default # of Speakers help

I'm in the process of working out a deal for some machines from Gaku. I know I want to lower the volume on all of these when I get them. Can anyone tell me how many volume controllers I would need for each of these machines? I've done some searches but can't narrow down the posts well enough. What are some good cheap ones? Thanks.

From the Tips and Tricks - Pachislo section:

But while you are working a deal with Gaku, why not see if HE can do the volume controls for you. He does nice work, and it may be worth your time.

Sent him an email to get a new qoute with them wired for volume control. Thanks.

He was out of the Super black Jack so I'm only getting the top three. What do you think of my selections?

When you do locate a SBJ, it won't require you to add volume controllers. The stock controllers are excellent.

your choices are great machines although others can vouch for the sea story i personally haven't played that machine .... your going to have allot of fun with them all just make sure you get plenty of tokens for each at least 800 if you don't want to keep opening the door to put em back in to win again during a big bonus (nothing worse than a hopper empty error during a bonus round)....

Agreed. I asked him to price them with 1000 tokens each.

My Azteca Legend Returns and SBJ have built in digital volume controls that work great.

on most machines the simple addition of a 47 ohm resistor to each speaker brings the volume down low enough to use the built in volume selector switch as a volume control some machines have to have a larger value depending on your perfered listening level .

    I respectfully Dis-agree......

It's poor engineering practices to NOT keep the impedance correct.
While you CAN insert series resistors, you should also include parallel ones to keep the designed impedance correct.
Adding a 47 Ohm resistor to a 8/16/40 Ohm speaker throws this off bigtime. The quality of the sound suffers, the low freq notes disappear.
Use an L-Pad, this is the EXACT job they were designed for...

Careful with parallel resistance! to small ohm and poof! magic smokes leaves amp. = no sound.
To answer part of the question Sinbad has 2 speakers. and volume control is a must.

While I agree with what you are saying in theory. I don't agree in practice given the speakers in question. First, we are not talking about high-fidelity speakers here. These are pretty much low grade units. Second, many of the pachi speakers I have had have exibited a fairly loud squeel/static sound. Adding resistance seems to correct this problem, while adding an lpad keeps it intact.

This is a subject visited many times in the past and although i would love to agree with you that l-pads are probably the best and probably the only solution by engineering means most people don't have the confidence to install them and then balance the volume .... installing a fixed value resister is much simpler and cheaper and doesn't require balancing and is much better than other alternatives such as cotton balls and unplugging the speakers (no load on the amp much BIGGER PROBLEM>>>>>) to my knowledge there have been no ill effects of using resistance methods to control volume on these machines in fact most machines have overdriven amps that cause undo distortion and this method does alleviate the problem also stereo pots have been the control of choice of many vendors on this board for some time and i have yet to hear of a single amp failure ....
