I did a search on stain for a repair I did not find any good fixes, I looked at doodudes pachi 101 but was not helped nor encouraged by the responses.
If someone has hidden, diminished or eliminated the ghosting that water (cleaner) seeping in around the nails would cause please share!
My Nishijin is in good shape except for the ghosting, It does make it look old but not in a good way, I bought a fixer upper that was not taken care of and it had no stains, so some people are 'loving' the machines to death by improperly cleaning them.
The same guy who sold me my first vintage has another Nishijin in working order with bad stains. it is a shame.
I would experiment with the playfield but the machine plays very well and I like the machine, does anyone have or know of a beaten up pachi with a stained playfield I could get to do research on? CHEAP or free?
I saw a post where someone pulled everthing off the playfield and put a cloth over it. I will go back and see if I can find it. I don't want to rebuild the playfield.
    Cheers,

    Nope no pictures...

we were all waiting for them... very interesting project indeed...

if it does work it could bring back to life a lot of the old water damaged machines..
would make for some interesting custom machines. as well..

in theory it would work.. in practice i dont know... the new playfield material Im thinking would have to have some sort of hard finish to it.. sort of a hard clear coating. to actually be used as a working pachi..

I Pm' d him, I hope this gets us the pics. I also asked how long it took and to rate it s difficulty from 1-10.
Most of the oriental pieces from this era used lacquer finish for the color, I also noticed what looked like a film overlay covering the playfield, plastic/mylar or similar. I would like to experiment with a junked pachi maybe reflow lacquer to counter the water stains, something simple without all of the effort of removing all the nails nod to the person who goes this deep on a machine.
We could roll on a poster, the 70's Farrah would be cool.
or contact paper might hold up to the abuse of pachi balls.
clear contact paper over a poster might be the best...

I think you are thinking about the star of the movie, Jenny Agutter. She was briefly nude in the ice chamber.

What about the idea of using a thin code of polyurethane? I know I've seen it for sale somewere but can't remember where.

When I worked in printing we put a heavy coat of polyurethane on wooden tables we had for moving paper around. it held up very good under heavy use.
