Default Need help fixing vintage pachinko

    Hi all,

A friend of mine gave me an old Nishinjin "All 15" pachino machine that had been laying around for years. It was very dirty and only had 1 ball in it. I have no idea how to get it to work, or how power is supplied to the machine - I see wires, but no power source. I do some gator clips which I guess could be hooked up to a battery, but I am not sure how to complete the circuit properly. Is there a diagram or a photo of any vintage Nishijin machines that I could use for reference anywhere? There is also a little tag that says "wait" near the ball launcher that is staying down. I am just wondering what to do first to fix this machine. I'm going to buy some balls online later today.

    Hi,

The wires do nothing more than power an "out of balls" light and a "jackpot" light that lights briefly if you hit a target. You do not need to hook these up for the machine to work. If you decide to hook them up, you can get a 9-volt battery connector at Radio Shack and a 9-volt battery.

The "wait" flag comes down when there aren't enough balls in the payout tray . Once you put enough balls in the top tray in the back of the machine, the flag will raise. Balls won't be released into the shooter area until there are enough balls in the payout area. You can purchase new balls from a number of sites online, or through Ebay (which is usually cheaper). I run about 500 balls or so in my vintage machines.

I've cleaned up a few vintage machines. Use steel wool on the steel parts (if there are any), and Windex on the plastic pieces. I've had good luck with running plastic pieces through the dishwasher, on the top rack, with the dryer heat turned off. Just be careful to take pictures or good notes about how each piece goes back together.

    Enjoy!

when cleaning the face itself never spray anything directly on it, use Q-tips or soft materials, and put the cleaner on them lightly.

I wouldn't go as far as steel wool (and then only the real fine stuff with some paste in it) unless the chrome was really far gone. Try first with some of the common chrome cleaners. Gel-Gloss is a great thing for cleaning the surface (again don't spray, wipe),otherwise waterspots form where the nails go in the machine.

In any case this is the best reference I have found so far and it was instrumental in getting me going to refurbish my vintage: http://faculty.ccp.edu/faculty/dreed...inko/index.htm

Sorry for not being clearer. Use super fine steel wool ONLY on the back - some older machines have a steel payout ball tray in the back and some steel tracks.

For machines that are held together with staples, what's the best thing to use when reassembling?

Screws, nails, staples, squid spit, what?

I'll take the Squid spit for 500 Alex...

ok ok screws definately go with the screws..
staples and nails sometimes have a tendancy to wiggle out..

i'd add some good old white glue into the mix as well..

    squid spit is optional...

its only used by those who truelly wish to pimp out their pachi's...

    DUH from SQUID!!!

well its not expensive because its rare, but rather the fact that it is difficult to produce. as you said you really have to get them squid irked to get them to spit at you..

well there havent been too many people killed in the harvesting of Squid spit..
well just the ones who tried to gather Squid spit from the Giant squid.. i tell you you dont wanna be saying bad things about a Giants squids mother

I bought 500 balls off ebay and got them the next day (!) and as soon as I loaded them into the top and then into the ball launcher, it worked! I'm gonna clean it up a bit before I tackle the lights. Thanks
