When I was a college student, I paid $10 for my watch. It had a stop watch and a calculator and a rubber wrist strap.

College? We don't need none of your book learnin', citified ways!

And besides, do you want a watch to remind you how late you are because of your pachis? I Think Not!!

I would go with the Tissot T-Touch. They can be picked up from reputable sellers from$350-$425. Nice quality watch you can keep for a long while.

ETA makes most "Swiss" movements. And the fancy name brand watches basically put their case and strap on it and sell it.

If you want "heirloom" quality then consider a Rolex. Many of the same parts from a 70's version can be used in a 2006 model. Very reliable and good for future parts. It doesn't have to be a Gold and diamond one either. They make some very classy ones in Stainless (Explorer). The Air King is the opening line ($2000) and is very nice. The upper end of Rolex's have their watches sent to a third party company and "officially certified" to meet Chronometer status.

If you want nice and fancy and last a long time, but maybe not pass it on down to kids, then something like a Brietling would be good.

So my votes are Tissot T-Touch, Breitling (Colt or Super Ocean), Rolex Air King or Explorer. Orrrrrr! A Seiko Kinetic or Casio Eco-Drive. I've personally had both the Seiko and Casio and both lasted about 5 years before dying and costing too much to repair. My Tag Hauer last about 5 years as well before my battery leaked and killed it. So now I use an "Automatic". That means a watch that does not require or have a battery. The Casio is cool, but ulitmately it has a battery.

But given your situation I would go with the Tissot T-Touch. Yeah it has a battery, but man it is a cool watch.

I have a Citizen Eco-Drive Skyhawk in Titanium, love it except it sometimes gets to be a pain when changing the time for Daylight Savings, I tried the stainless version of the same watch and it was no contest for the Titanium.
Used to have a Seiko that I had since 1983 finally changed to the Citizen when I got tired of the $25.00 battery changes.

I used one of my Dad's hand me down watches in College and I too sported a pocket protector full of pens.

I wear a $20 Timex. Hubby wears IWC (a LOT more than my Timex ), but he also has a Titanium Seiko Kinetic.

cant make up my mind what i want,

dont want anything with plastic and i definately dont want a downpayment on a house on my wrist..

I have been swaying towards the the seiko's for a while myself but never found a deal or watch i liked..

oh well we'll see.. until then TIME is overrated.... just look at the sun if its there you should be awake and doing stuff if its not.. you should be in bed...

yeah i know a mobiles clock works fine.. but.. i dont know about you but i hate having to whip out the mobile to see the time, its either in my pocket or on my desk or where ever..

a watch is somehow more practical..

I have a blue-faced Titanium Seiko, as well. But, mine is battery operated. The nice thing about this watch is the accuracy. It gains about 4 seconds a MONTH is all. Nearly perfect and the best I've ever had in a watch. And, since it gains the 4 seconds, all that needs be done is pull out the stem for a few seconds (that stops the second hand) and it is perfect once again.
