I could have come up with some big time BS answer to the original question but I thought I'd take it to the master of this issue. With permission I am quoting the reply I received to the question of which is it, pachislot or pachislo.

I believe it's pachislo -- pronounced as "pa-chi-su-ro." If it is "pachislot," the Japanese would pronounce "pa-chi-su-ro-tto." I've never heard the Japanese say it. But, hey, who knows.... Japanese people are full of mystery -- they might write "pachislot" while they would say it "pa-chi-su-ro" without a "t" sound.

The Japanese language is a full of confusion these days. I remember the French gov banned the usage of foreign words in France years ago... I thought that was a good idea...
