Default SF2 credit button issue ?

just picked up a Street Fighter 2 machine......

After a bit of work it seems to play normally, however, when I press the credit buttont to empty any remaining credits, the machine completely empties the hopper then gives a hopper empty error.....once stopped the same happens if I try a soft reset by turning the door key left ... also activates hopper and doesn't stop.

Any ideas what the problem might be ?

    Cheers

Does it do the same thing if you fill it up with 50 tokens and then hit a winning combination so that the total goes over 50? If so, my guess would be the sensor that is signaling tokens have been outputted is not working properly. It may be a bad wire on the hopper as well.

    Good Luck,

your sensor is probably dirty and cant see the light literally to count the out going tokens on the hopper or on some machines a arm is pushed that activates the sensor each time a token is ejected and springs back .if it doesnt get lubricated the arm will stick in the up position and you get the same effect either way its a hopper issue take a good look at the coin path through the hopper and youll find the sensor .

Thanks guys, I'd already done much of this stuff after searching here on one of my earlier machines, but no solution........

    Then I found this ........

a severed hopper sensor lead may just explain the problems don't you think ? ..........should have looked a little more carefully before posting.......

That one's going to be a tough one to fix unless you have some very tiny wire strippers or are very good with a razor blade.

Looks like you found the problem. Not so tough to fix, just add a little wire, if necessary.

Temporarily, go to youtube.com and search for BudgeRahe for videos. Until I get the links set up in the museum

Actually this can be done fairly easily.
If you have an eyeglass screwdriver, you should be able to slip it in beside the crimped end to the wire. One side should have a little tab sticking out holding it from slipping out. push down on that tab and the it will slide out. Then you can reattach the ends. Pull the tab back out a little and slide it back into the socket.
