    YIPE!!!

You don't EAT them kind... you MILK them.

(And anyone that thinks that cows "give" milk, has never tried milking one. They don't GIVE anything... you gotta FIGHT for it)

Black angus is good eating! We buy 1 side a year. Cheaper and from a local guy, no mad cow or other disease. No steroids or other junk either.

Spring is in the air and I was busy today mowing for the first time this year here in NW Iowa. What a beautiful day and a good time to give this thread a boost and bump!

1st Pic is a double Rainbow out over Lake Superior!
2nd Pic is the Paul A. Tregurtha entering the Duluth Harbor!
Built in 1981 1013 ft long Flag:USA Cargo: Coal
The Paul Tregurtha is almost a football field longer than the IDS Building is high. She is a self-unloader with 36 hatches on deck that open into 5 cargo compartments. She has a maximum carrying capacity of 67,500 tons.
3rd pic is the Paul A. Tregurtha going under the only bridge of it's kind in the world, the Aerial Lift Bridge! Into the St. Louis Bay and onto Midwest Energy to load coal! Just 1 of a few 1000+ footers that come into port here! This pic gives you an idea of how large these ships are....look at the tiny people!
4th pic is a better view of the Aerial Lift Bridge. The Great Lakes largest and furthest inland port--Duluth-Superior.
5th pic is of the ice pack 3/9/07.....the 4 ships to the left are stuck in the ice, the 1 departing is trying to make it thru....our brand new Coast Guard Cutter/Icebreaker the Alder is already broken....the cutter Biscayne Bay is dispatched from St. Ignace, MI. takes 3 days to get here!
6th pic is a Duluth Air National Guard F-16 patrolling over the port and the city!
Click this link to see and hear a cool VIDEO of the 1000' Walter J. McCarthy Jr. ship entering the ship canal and going under the Aerial Lift Bridge!

    I always liked Duluth.
I look at it from a different perspective though.

And the snow and ice....I see that a little differently too.

It is too bad that they retired the Mighty Mac.....She was a great Ice breaker.

I have heard of Captain Cliffs along time ago, but i can't remember were it was located? I think it was in Superior? I could be wrong! It's not here or changed names now!

sailorpatp: I take it you must have been or still are a captain or sailor aboard 1 of the mighty ships that visit here?
I would love the chance to sail aboard any 1 of the ships that visit here each year! That would be a once in a lifetime opportunity! The view must be awesome from that perspective! Thanks for the pics!

    Sailboat meets bridge, bridge wins!
Federal Fraser (Panama) runs aground 8/29/2002!

The storm pictures below were taken during a North Atlantic storm February, 13, 1987 on an eastbound passage from Tampa, Florida to Ghent, Belgium with a load of phosphates. The pictures were taken by Capt. George Ianiev, who was the ship's Second Mate at the time. The big blue wave was the largest wave the ship encountered during the storm; seeing it hit the ship made the vessel's master question whether they would survive the storm.
Makes me want to throw up just looking at them!
