That be the first sears of Lupan. I see what it reads, but the machine is not sent up as a coin play. So I don't know either, I have a ball loan that takes 100 Yen coins and gives you 25 balls

A quick check on Heiwa's site says it was released Dec. '98. They also still have a page for it too:

Not sure what the ¥100 to play reference in that auction is referring to though...

According to the Heiwa page, the machine that guy is selling is a quarter spec machine which means that, in the parlors, it should have accepted pre-paid cards, not cash. Possibly he has rigged it to take coins though but I'm not sure and, as you can see, nothing in the pic suggests that it could. I played that machine an awful lot back in the day (witness my avatar) but don't recall that cel but, then again, quarter spec cels are usually the rarest of the bunch.

Rupan, welcome back! Now correct me:

I think that machine has the plastic cover over the player's ball feed like I saw in the Japanese arcades (as opposed to parlors)--on these converted-for-arcade machines you cannot touch the balls.

Is the 100 Yen acceptor (that releases the balls into the sealed tray--maybe that's your device, Arby) on the side of those (I don't recall and was too dumb to take a photo there)...

It does look like there's plastic over the ball try. Good eye.

Yes, good eye. The ones in the arcades, though, are in completely different dedicated cabinets that don't make use of the tray areas.

The older way removed the tray completely and replaced it with a coverplate. Some of the more 'handmade' units just cover the shooter tray. The machines are cyclic and only the start pocket and bonus door are active. A 100y coin is inserted which gives you 100 'credits' (shots). A digital display counts down your shots ad increases 4 for every start. Varying with how the unit is set up, at 3000 'credits', the stand dispenses a special token that I assume is redeemed for a prize (ala Dave & Busters). This machine may have come out of one of those cabinets. The control card is just 4x6" and connects to sensors and the shooter knob button (to stop pay when credits run out).

compirate, you nailed this...the arcade with ones like this that I saw (in November 2005) was on Kawaramachi in Kyoto, I believe...most of the coin-op pachinkos were newer (and I think a few more yen to play--150?) but they had a few from this period at 100...with the plastic as shown here. Good times.
