See that plane in the background? looks like a C-141:-) I was on the other end, fixed up the planes so you folks could jump out of 'em :-)
About 9 years in the air force before I got out.
Makes me wonder, many other former/current military here?

I spent 5 years in the Air Force.....2 at Dover and 3 at Bitburg, Germany. The whole time was spent in the operating room having fun. I had TDY's to Soesterburg, Netherlands and Napals, Italy. And oh yeah,......there was that thing in Honduras.......I have flown in C130, C141, and C5.

    No biggee but..

6 month military Service Greek Military (would have done a full 18th month term, but due to my duel citizenship got away wth only 6)

    31st Anti Tank platoon
    T.O.W. Specialist.

Served during a major Greek/Turk incident, ( Imia island incident) January 31 1996. full alarm and were on the verge of pushing the button.

I was serving in northern Greece at the time approx 25 Km from the Turkish border

Fortunately cooler heads prevailed after what could be charactarized as a very long night.. possibly the longest night i have known...

not fun at all knowing that at any moment you are going to war...

some fun things i remember that night include the following..

    1) loading our armored TOW vehicle with ammunition and TOW missles when some idiots dropped a missle as they where taking out of its box in the munitions warehouse. never seen 100 people get that quiet all at once so fast.. just seeing and hearing that thing bouncing... YIKES.

    2) after the stand down order was given the next morning, being assigned to accompany a Truck full of munitions back to base. back of truck was crammed with you name it, at some point during the ride back the driver fell asleep at the wheel and we left the road. luckily he woke up in time to regain control of the vehicle.

I joined the Air Force in early '90, got out of basic right when the first gulf war kicked off, so I got sucked into that.
After that, I spent almost 7 years in altus, oklahoma working on c-141's and c-5's,
then they switched to civilian maintenance there, so I was xferred to wichita, kansas to work on kc135's. The good thing about the base in kansas, was lots of tdy's, the first was to japan, which pretty much got me hooked on all things japanese:-)
After that, the wife and I got out when she got pregnant (she was Air Force too), because it was only a matter of time before we both got deployed at the same time
Got out, moved to wisconsin (where I was originally from), and got a job as a network admin (no more aircraft for me!)

Yeah, that will wake you up! whew! I would probably have had to change pants after that one

One big brush with stupidity/death that I remember was when we had an aircraft jack collapse, and go THROUGH the top of the wing, putting about 10,000 lbs of fuel all over the area, talk about running fast and not looking back:-)

Well I don’t really count. I am a contractor employed at the Los Angeles Air Force Base. I’ve worked at the base for almost 8 years now doing IT Support. At least I don't have to watch my weight to keep my job

Anchors away.... I retired out of the Navy a couple of years back. Worked mostly in the aircraft logistics field with a AMS rating aka aircraft structural mechanic Helo-chopers, the mighty Hercules C-130, and a couple more smaller airplanes.

Drafted in the Army in 1963, right between Berlin and Vietnam. I got a Top Secret clearance and worked at the Pentegon Army War Room Support Division for the balance of my 2 year tour.

    worked with a multimillion dollar computer system that took up a huge room {our home computers now can do more}
punched and sorted IBM cards, wired boards, helped programmers with transfering software to system.

2 years active reserve working in arms room. 2 years inactive.
    Free at last in 1969

I'm glad I didn't have to do any fighting, I hope my boys never have too!!!!!

One tour USAF in the early 80's. I was a medic so all I did was heal the sick. I was stationed in Kansas, too bad I didn't know you guys back then. Every weekend would have been a roadtrip!

This is my personal opinion, or of the voices in my head, and are not meant to reflect the opinion of this board.
