To mess with our minds, I am sure.

It might be a ROM chip that is set up different ?

    Maybe it's the Force?

I have a feeling it's a combination of events. It's a fun thing to figure out on a rainy day like today.

Could it be how you play the machine? I'm staring so hard at that start gate (never looking at the video!) - it happens so quick that you'd miss it if you weren't looking right at it. It doesn't even seem to open all the way. Someone more experienced (e.g. better!) might not need to look so hard.

Finally I caught my flipper opening during regular play. Of course it is a ZF model and if you are not looking right at the flipper when it happens you won't catch it. It really is as fast as saying "open, closed". Unless the ball happens to be right there you will never get a payoff. I also did'nt notice anything special happen afterwards, but then again I never got a ball in!

    Cheers,
    James

Carrying a loaded blaster around town, who ever said stormtroopers were bright. Funny though, Jedi's seem to be able to get away with having their lightsabers and no one seems to notice.

    Cheers,

Not so funny when you consider they are armed with mind tricks and stormtroopers aren't. You have to have a mind to pull off the trick I guess.

I don't remember the flippers opening on my ZF during regular play either. Star Wars and Star Blazers 2 are different in that they are neotype 3-5-10-15 payout machines. My belief is thats due to the rule changes that came into effect just before their release. On these machines the flippers are on a separate pocket directly below the start pocket. The start pocket which does not have flippers, pays out 3 balls whereas the lower flippered pocket pays out 5 balls. On other machines the flippers surround the start pocket.

To add to the previous post, I remember the flippers flicking open rarely and very briefly during a Fever. They do however follow the flipper roulett timer and stay open normally during the 100 round Chance Time following a Fever. The lower pocket with the flippers is also a start pocket and will start the reel spin.

I've seen them open during a fever round as well but not long enough to do anyone a bit of good but it was nice see they worked.

Mine (ZF Model) opens during normal play I've found, but it is RARE. I feel it has to be a combination of events, Possible causes...Getting three red or three blue number characters (not matching) in a row, getting a ball in the top "start" pocket at the exact time the X & O are about to stop, My beer bottle being almost empty..I will someday figure this out.
