Nah, the trick is getting the Girlfriend that will point these things out for you. You have to do the pointing first a couple of times, then it turns into a game.
Then you can compliment hers over the others. It's a rare thing to find but when you find it, you keep her (at least that's what I'm doing)

Or you can try the other approach. If you see a girl with a nice pair, point out her boots/hair/clothes to your partner and say 'look at the state of those boots/hair etc'. She'll be pleased that you're not interested, meanwhile you can have a good ogle
