    Default help with windows xp

I was looking in my documents under files of family pictures. looking for one for my profile. Open a sub folder look to see if what I want is there. I looked through all sub files. When I was done I clicked on the folder with the green arrow icon to go back to the main folders page. When I went to browse then for the picture I was going to upload to the profile listed it as the whole main folder. I went back to look at the sub folder and all the pictures in it were gone and a icon that said thumbs on it was the only thing there. I went back to the main folder then back to the sub folder but not even the icon was there. Nothing in folder!? It is the same for all the sub folders in main folder. Any Ideas as to ware they are? What happened? How to get them back? I did not delete anything! And no window came up asking me if I wanted to make sure I wanted to delete them.

You might have accidently moved them to another folder. Like RKnarr01 said, do a search for one of the files.

Then again, maybe your Pachipet ate them!

Could have accidentally deleted them, but you should have had a popup box asking if you were sure you wanted to delete. Definately do a search and also check the recycle bin.

    Will give it a try.

Did a search. Three locations or the file came up. The sub folder they were in witch is empty. A folder I have the same files that I backup all pictures that i had printed out. and recent documents. The recent doc. had some but not all of the sub files that went blank. I can copy from the intact folder with the copy's I made prints of, but his is not telling me ware the pictures are and what happened to them. If this happens to other folders I have in my documents I do not have copy's of some of it.

    This is very weird....

have you tried looking for the pictures via dos??
maybe there is a glitch in Windows and its just not seeing them..

    goto Start

    select run
    type

    CMD
this will put you in dos mode.

if you have your ppictures stored in my documents/my pictures you type the following

    cd my documents/my pictures

    then type dir /p
this will show you the contents of the directory.

typing exit returns you to windows.

if you provide me with more info as to where you are looking i can tell you the exact thing to type if you are unfamiliar with DOS

Sid. This I think is what you call the path to ware they are supposed to be.
    C:\Documents and Settings\default\My Documents\Family folders\Tylers birthday 2005

I don't mess with things that could mess this computer up. Not without being told what to do first.

    ok...

    heres what you do

    go to Start
    Run
    type CMD

    now you are in dos
it should be in the default folder

    now type

    CD My Documents\Family folders\Tylers birthday 2005

this will put you in the folder where your images where /are

    now type
    DIR /p

this will give you a direcory listing... you should now see all the Images that should still be there for example Tyler.jpg etc etc..

give it a try and lets see what you find..

to get out of dos you just type EXIT at the command prompt.

    good luck..

Well thanks for trying Sid. I typed in what you said. Kept saying this was not right. So I copied and pasted in the part that you wanted typed in, then it worked for that part. The next line came up the same as was typed in but with out the CD command? in the middle with an arrow at the end. I tried typing in the DIR/p here and get Volume indirect has no label. Then under that, Volume serial number is, then some numbers. So ware did I put my computer for dummy's book?

Thanks for trying. I'll have to what till the computer guy gets back to me. I've been waiting all day but he is busy putting up the new tower for the wireless. It just bugs me that I did not do anything different than I do any other time with going back and forth between files. The only difference is I was trying to upload to add a picture to my profile.

Several folks have suggested what I would try, a system restore. That's my best advice.

Well lets get out the computer book for dummy's. I don't see system restore. Well I'm not going to tell anyone I don't know what they are talking about. It sounds like something I could really mess this thing up with.

Go to START, ALL PROGRAMS, ACCESSORIES, SYSTEM TOOLS, then SYSTEM RESTORE.

Like you, I was afraid to use it the first time, but since then I have had to do it a couple of times.

It's a great thing to have...and you don't lose files, even recent ones.
