Default REEL's WON'T STOP WITH YOUR BUTTONS ON YAMASA MACHINES? READ ON!

Since I have a few of these machines I had one that was running but the buttons on the front would not stop the machine. The buttons are good and even shorting the pins didn't work. Upon closer examination the board on the side of the machine (on the lock side near the top) had the fuse gone. I replaced this and there was a cloud of smoke and the main power supply fuse blew. I replace the power supply fuse and swapped the board I just mentioned and BOOM BADDA BING we are in business the machine works great.. looks like the machine was in world war 3 but heck it stall works and I have a ton of spares for it so I am going to rebuild it. This same board appears to be in alot of Yamasa Macbines. (BTW the machine I am working on is a Yamasa NEW Pulsar Extra) Its a 1995 vintage machine..

    Hope this helps someone out.

    Regards,
    Tony

sounds like you had a shorted board and yes if that fuse blows you wont be able to stop the reels its one of the first things to check besides the spin leaver if it hangs in the up or down position you wont be able to stop the reels either but on those machines with light up reel stop buttons its easy to detect cause the lights wont come on either .

Great service tip Tony, now break out the multimeter and find the fault on the board, I bet it's a diode.

checked all the diodes and that does not seem to be the fault on the faulty board.. any other ideas?? The only other parts are a few IC's , Resistors and some caps.

I used my Cap checker and they are all checking good.. a relay huh (yes it appears there is a bank of those).. That might be it the board does appear to have some brown look to it. I thought those were self contained (by the looks of them). I am rather suprised that it would go bad..

if there was a short on the load side of the relay it will sometimes exceed the rating and weld the contacts of the relay ....but sometimes they just hang up but a simple rap on the relay clears it up .... the relay its self usually isnt the problem just a symtom of the problem like a shorted load . relays them selves are just switches and turning a switch on isnt the cause of a problem the frayed wires at the light bulb are .....the relay coil can short but thats do to over voltages or spikes .......

I checked it out by Rapping it and the stop board still blows the (stop boards fuse) if I change the board to known good stop board all works fine. This has to be a typical thing as I have 5 of these stop boards that just blow a fuse and if I can figure out the culprit then I can repair all these boards and make some other machines with them. Anyone any ideas?

if the relay has a contact layout imprinted on it check the n.o. contacts with a meter and see if there closed . if all check ok check the coil for the relay should read 30 ohm or some where in that range but not zero ,if it reads zero its shorted and will blow a fuse .......dont be fooled by the diode it may read zero in one direction and 30 ohm in the other direction (the diode is there to collapse the field once the relay is shut down, but is usually installed with a reverse polarity to shunt the field .)
