Default GrandView - Pachinko Palace - Security Alert

I just tried to access their web-site but my Norton AV won't let me. It came up with this message immediately after the flash introduction.

    Security Alert
    High Risk

Norton Internet Worm Protection has detected and blocked an intrusion attempt .

    Intrusion: ICC Profile TagData Overflow.
    Intruder: www.grandviewproducts.com(67.102.88.136)(http(80)).
    Risk Level: High
    Protocol: TCP.
Attacked IP: [my own internal IP address]
    Attacked Port: 3662.
I don't know if something quirky just occured with my own system or Norton, or if something inadvertantly got into their web-site. So take this with a grain of salt. Perhaps I am the one infected.

Since my system is now blocking this address, I can't get onto their web-site to leave an e-mail alerting them, so perhaps someone from there will read this and check it out. Hopefully it is just a false alarm.

It's been two months since Eric logged in, so it's not likely they'll ever see this.

Dishpan, I've been getting those same reports randomly all of a sudden. I had to turn off the worm protection on Norton because everytime I got one of those worm reports it would cut off my access to secure sites for stocks, banks, etc.

I am wondering if Norton's Live Update changed something in the last couple of weeks and caused this?

Just one of the reasons I don't use Norton's nor would I recommend it to anyone. IMHO it causes more problems the it fixes. In the old days Norton's was a top notch product (pre Windows) but any more I see screwed up machine after screwed up machine and the common thing amoung then is Norton's.

I put a demo version of norton on my computer a few years ago, it ran so slow I could'nt do anything with the computer. After I deleted it no problems.
I stay away from it, anyway there are lots of free personal use firewalls, virus protectors etc that work in my opinion better out there.

    Cheers,
    James

I agree completely. While Norton doesn't rock, it should sit under one.

I did the "Microsoft Updates" thing yesterday. Perhaps that was also a factor.

I use E Trust for my anti virus. I used it when it was a free program then kept it when they started having to pay for it. Cheap and never had a problem with it. Always runs without my knowing it is there and does not slow up my computer with a lot of things to run. I give it a A+!

I wondered about the Microsoft update that came in last week, too. It had to be either the MS or Symantec causing the problems. They both updated within about a day or so of each other and then the worm notices started.

AOL subscribers who use Symantec's security system had their Internet access cut off by a recent update

An incorrect update to Symantec's Norton security software on Wednesday blocked Internet access for some America Online users.

The issue affected AOL customers using recent editions of Norton AntiVirus and Norton Internet Security, Symantec said in a statement sent via email on Thursday. The culprit was an update to the intrusion-prevention system that is part of the security software, the company said.

"This update incorrectly detected traffic patterns used as part of the AOL connection as a potential risk," Symantec said in the statement. AOL has about 20 million Internet service subscribers.

As a result of the incorrect update, AOL dial-up customers lost their connection and AOL broadband users were unable to access AOL servers, Symantec said. The erroneous update was removed from Symantec's servers about seven hours after it was released, and a corrected version was posted, the company said.

The Norton problem is the second high-profile problem with security software within a week. Last Friday an error in McAfee's virus definition file caused the company's consumer and enterprise antivirus products to flag Microsoft's Excel, as well as other applications on users' PCs, as a virus called W95/CTX.

Norton users in the US who are experiencing problems can contact Symantec customer service at 1-800-927-3991 at no cost. Others can read more on the issue at the company's Web site. Symantec advises users who are unable to go online because of the issue to disable their Norton software, connect to the Internet and immediately download updated definition files.

This is really cool, but I see a couple of minor problems for those affected.
    1) IF you can't get online, you can't read the notice.
    2) If you can't get online and read the notice, then you don't know that there is a corrected version available for download.
    3) If you can't get online (see a pattern here?) you don't know to disable internet security to make the corrections.

I am so glad that Symantec is looking out for it's users and posting this information and download for those who can't connect.

This is my personal opinion, or of the voices in my head, and are not meant to reflect the opinion of this board.
