Default Moving the reels by hand, bad idea?

Forgive me if this has been discussed already I searched around and could not find an answer.

Would moving the reels by hand when the machine is open throw off the alignment or anything like that?

I;ve done it and had no problems. I don't believe some gentle turning of the reels would harm the stepper motor.

    Boy, you're fast, Arby.

Considering the value of these machines from new... they are virtually indestructable! So the end answer is NO you cannot hurt them by moving them even if you move then alot! In fact if you have a King Pulsar and its dirty just set the machine into spin mode and use Spray 9 to clean the reels. (Use spray 9 on a paper towel and set it spinning and then watch that dirt come off). Repeat and use windex or water to neutralize the Spray 9. Your set!

Cool a new way to scratch or dent your reels!

    Lddrizzt,

I was wondering what product(s) you use to clean your machines/reels?
    Simple Green and Kleenex
    Brillianze and Soft Cloth
    Distilled Watter and paper towel

Also how do you apply product to your reels?
Directly spray cleaning product on reel, or onto Kleenex, Cloth, Towel, etc. first

How do you handle the reel when cleaning?
Hold in place and turn down
    Remove the reel and clean
Turn machine on and have the reels spin

I have another question, why then do I sometimes see posts where they say the reels are not aligned?
Can too much movement of the reels not realign them correctly?

When cleaning the reels, should you note what position they are in and when finished cleaning make sure it is returned to the ORIGINAL position?

Since you asked, I use Orange cleaner on a soft cloth and turn the reel by hand.
If you set them spinning and use a paper towel with whatever cleaner you will scratch the reel. Paper towels are not soft and will scratch.
They are made of a soft pliable plastic, and the average person will want to press a little harder while the reel is spinning and cause a dent or ripple in the reel.
As to threads where someones reel alignment is off, it usually is a bad sensor, or the reel strip had been removed and reapplied off it's mark, or the stepper motor isn't stopping true.
I doesn't matter where you leave the reel when you are done, they have a sensor/tab setup that will align the reel properly on the next spin.

This is my personal opinion, or of the voices in my head, and are not meant to reflect the opinion of this board.
