Default Building A Ball Lift Mechanism

I've looked at a couple pictures and I'm thinking of building my own automatic ball lifting system. I really don't want to buy one and I would rather build it into the cabinet that houses the machine anyway.

Am I correct in assuming that basically all a ball lift assembly is comprised of is a catch tray that funnels down to a cog that pushes the pachinko balls up a shaft (using them in a solid line) until they reach the top where they drop out into the ball tray?

That's pretty much it. A few things - An upper tray switch to tell it when to stop, an 'out of balls' switch on the unit itself so it doesn't keep running all the time and a backflow paw to prevent the weight of the balls from pushing them back into the lifter.

Thanks! I'll probably use a pair of arcade button microswitches (one wired to always be closed so it would disconnect upon being depressed [top], the other wired to always be open so it would disconnect when not depressed [bottom]), with the switch nubs up against the plates for the cutoffs and break the power connection.

I didn't even think about backflow being an issue but that picture explains a lot, thanks again. If anything it helps explain the mechanics if I decide to just end up ordering one.

Even a "store bought" ball lifter can be built in as I have done in this picture. The ball lifter is under the machine, built into the base of my Fever Neo Powerful. Another consideration is that the ball lifters available don't store enough balls and during a time of less payouts it will overflow. Some method of extra capacity is necessary. Here I've added a bin to collect balls and direct them into the ball lifter.
