Default A certain vintage of machine

I am sure many of you have seen the article these pics are from about a japanese man with a retro pachinko parlor. Notice that these machines have rudimentary electronic features with a manual handle on them. Does anyone have a machine of this vintage? What year(s) were they made like this? They seem like the best of both worlds. Does anyone know if they got more complicated before they went to a shooter knob? thanks

Closest thing I have to that would be a Royal flush machine that is full of solenoids.

From the picutre I would take a wild guess and say early 80's vintage.

Do you have the link to the article? I don't think I've seen it before

Are these machines pretty uncommon then? Do you have a pic of your machine you could attach? Here is the link to the article. I wish it had more pictures, but it has decent text.

I would say early to mid '70s, since I think the first shooter knobs showed up in '73.

That site is an interesting read. The fella highlighted in it reminded me of Arby when he states that "Inside the machines, the parts are old. I feel like they are my children..."

    Thanks for posting it.

1973 for the first shooter knob? Incredible! I thought my old Nishijin was from then, but it may be older. Pachinkos were cutting edge technology wise weren't they? Does anyone know if the old shooter knobs were solid state, or did they use a Potentiometer? Seems like a pot would really give you problems with accuracy after a while. The machines on the above link are awesome!! The 80's models are incredible eye candy. I hardely see this vintage for auction or sale. I would love to get a few.

I know nothing of the detailed history of these machines. It would appear from the complexity of some models with an auto shooter though, that not all companies decided to embrace the shooter knob. Those machines pictured above have more features than some of automatic machines I have seen. Did the company that made these want to stick to the purity of old school pachinko? Anyone know how long it took for the auto shooter to be the industry standard?
