You could ask Autoslot, I'm pretty sure that picture is from his site and he's a member here. Explain to him that you are in the UK and would rather buy them locally than order overseas from him. I'm pretty sure he'd share the part number

And yes, I'm about 99% certain that those are 500 ohm pots. the legs probably came straight out the bottom and have been "laid down" to make a more streamlined installation.

As for me, I'll just order from Autoslot for $1 each and save myself the time on the research

I haven't received my order yet, but I did order 30 of them. The volume controls he sold previously looked like the same thing, but they were mounted to a small board. Those ones were 500 ohm pots.

500 ohm pots work best for normal speakers and 2000 or 5000 ohm pots work best for piezo tweeters like those in a lot of Sammy machines.

I believe High Grade Gamera is a Sammy machine, but I don't have one, so I'm not sure if the upper speakers are piezo or regular speakers.

They are potentiometers, but the simple term used for this kind is either PCB Mount or Trimpots (Trimmers) 500 Ohm type could be used for most 8 ohm speakers.

1K's are fine too. The only difference is the resolution on the volume control - how much the volume changes/turn of the pot.

I ordered some beefy potentiometers from Mouser, but while waiting for them to arrive I opted to slap some trimpots into my King Camel so I could play it. As soon as I hit my first big bonus, one of the trimpots stopped working.

I'm sure autoslot said 1,000 which is 1K, not 1,000,000 which is 1000K. With that pot, I'd expect all or nothing, no adjusability at all. You really only want about 100 ohms or so of resistance.

Yes, 1000k Ohms is too much, but at one far turn it should provide zero resistance and be full volume, no? If not then either the wiring is wrong, not connecting or the pot is blown (I think). Did you wire the two outside leads by any chance? That would be like wiring in a solid 1000k resistor (no variability).

Pots can be connected either with the middle lead and one of the outside leads, or you can connect the middle and one outside lead together and the other outside lead to the other wire, or you can wire the negative or ground wire into it, there's multiple possibilities, but the simplest (middle and one outside), works fine in this situation. ( perfer to use another method that involves the use of a limiting resistor to give the volume control more curve, but that's not needed for a "set and forget" arrangement.)

    Edit: fixed spelling error.

You can start here : http://www.pachitalk.com/forums/show...=potentiometer but then link to the Aduio Beginners doc on Pots it has a lot of good information. But again, if the three leads are in a row, then you can cut one wire to the positive side of the speaker and put one end of the wire to the middle lead, and one wire to the outside lead and voila! You can always test first using alligator clip test leads if you have them.

The reason I use 1K pots is they are a good balance for both the 8 ohm coil type speakers and the higher resistance piezo type speakers. One control can do both types.

I also orderd these and installed them in my Sakura Pachinko and they work just fine , and believe me Sakura uses 3 speakers so its not easy to adjust the sound but with these ones I could bring down the volume exactly what I like .

ps : I`m also using some shrinksockets on both pins to protect them from making contact with the machine ....

There also others for sale who are located on a small pcb they are much easier to install but are expensiver , Ask Arby he knows where to get them ...

    Regards Jan
