Talking Re: Another cabinet design--back on topic

So far I've built four of Ken's cabinets, and finally painted one. Rather than go for the plain black which many people (quite rightly) favor, we decided to try to color match with the machines when we could. Our first is our New Road Construction pachinko, which is mostly purple (see attached pics).

One other random tip.. when squeezing the tape-wrapped pipe into the hole you've drilled, push it up from the bottom, not down from the top. Pushing down is easier, but sometimes the tape slips a little. It's better to have a little out of place tape hanging around the middle of the pipe where it comes out underneath than around the top in the ball hopper.

I know some people would prefer to have the cabinet fit the machine more exactly than I do in these pics, but there seems to be some slight variation in height of my machines, and I'd rather have a little extra room and the ability to change machines in the future, so I stuck with the original plans, which call for the 42" cabinet sides and give an extra 3/4 of an inch or so above the machine. (It also gives some wiggle room if your wood working skills are not, uhh... "optimal".)

I too am in the process of building a Ken524 designed cabinet for my Kagetu.
I wanted to make it completly in Plexi but Dahlia wouldnt have it. LOL

I did however make the ball stopper mech out of Plexi as it is very smooth in action and very strong. Plus it looks cool!

Ken - Here is a picture of my pachinko's using your cabinet design. I had made the bottoms a little larger so they could easily sit and later be hung on the wall (when I get the basement ready). For most of them I also have volume controls and cheat buttons on their right side. I also added a little trim work on the top and put a swing door on the right side of the return ball tray. I'm hoping this will help empty the ball return tray when I do hang them up. Having the return ball area open really helps the kids easily refill the shooter tray. My painting really stinks and although I used primer and good paint, couldn't get them painted without streaks.

Thanks again for the great design!

I was wondering what everyone uses to attach the machine to the cabinet?

I'm building one of these rt now (all pieces cut, bottom built) and I'm still not sure how I want to attach the machine. Pan head bolts would work, but I'm afraid they'll look out of place on the cab.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!!

fasten from the inside using proper length screws, pop of the door (if it is easy on your mchine) to make hanging the frame simpler.

Ya, I tried that, I don't have enough hands. But you can do it yourself with a few clamps to hold it together first. The hinge side you just have to make do with a couple screws on some machines as there are not many places to put a screw from the inside unless you want to remove the cell. If you have the cell already out it goes much easier. I've also gone all the way out to 48" on the sides so I can use the $10 target stands to set them on when they are not on the wall.

With those stands I have to hunch over using a standard chair when the machine is only 4" off the stand (with a paint tray). This way they can be a little over 6". Then you only need one cut on a 2"x8"x8' board to make the sides. I'm kind of limited on power tools.

What do you use for a curved backstop 2unes? I've found that a cheap plastic "For Sale" sign works pretty good. They small ones are exactly 12" wide to fit between feet and the larger ones are good for stands.

I'm also getting good results using 3" strips from a clear plastic stair tread for frame defectors. You hook the curved end around the bottom of the frame and tuck the other end through the door and trim about a inch off so it does not stick out too much (leave enough so that you can grip it while closing the door). The door holds it tight and has enough give to keep the noise down. They also fall right into the paint tray or not hit the wall as much and don't seem to jump back out of the paint tray.
