i didn't get a chance to read the entire thread before posting this - any chance anyone (ken?) is interested in selling a pre-cut kid of the wood? Thanks!

I'm actually surprised that no one has done this yet... Ken's design is one of the cleanest so far, and would be a pretty simple cut with the right tools (and hell, while my workshop is still in the "tearing down the old sheds where it's gonna go" phase, I'd buy at least three kits!

What tools would be required to make this cabinet? The extent of my tools is hammers, screwdrivers, and socket sets.

ya can meke a nice cabinet with a skill saw and a good drill/screw gun, drill bits etc.. (table saw would help, but not required)

to make the one pictures hear, ya would probably need a jig saw and a router as well..

Ken, I've looked at the plans for this cabinet and it indicates that you need to moisten the hopper ramp in order to warp it. How wet do you have to make it in order for it to warp correctly?

i mad a very quick look threw this thread.. i don't see anything about wetting the wood..

if your needing to bend some wood the only way to do it with control is to steam it.. its not about the water content its about the heat and water to soften the wood.. then you can bend it clap it and let it cool and dry..

my advice would be to use thin plywoods 1/8 inch ply bends easy.. if you require thicker materials then ya can glue and clamp many layers together and let that dry with allot less work then steaming..

i have used 1/8 inch lauan with great success my self.. If ya cant find lauan try searching for a "door skin"

Thank you for the information. In Ken's plans, it calls for moistening the 1/8" plywood for the upper hopper so the balls roll to the hole into the machine. The wood is placed on top of two paint cans and two other paint cans are used to warp the wood.

Actually while the plans do call for wetting the wood if you just cut it a little long you can simply force it into place with a nice curve to it. Use a couple of 3/8 screws at the hole to hold it in place. I used this technique for all of the cabinets I built. Good luck

I agree with dave.. i would not bother wetting.. a few screws and a good bit of glue and your good to go.. (IMHO)

Thank you, Dave and Mopar. I appreciate the input. That will save me some work. A quick question, how much longer do you make that piece?

Thank you for your help. The only things I have left work out is the length of the PVC pipe for the top hopper, the diameter and length of the dowel for the slide gate, and of course the trivial matter of getting the wood cut.

Really love this cabinet build. I just need to find a way to get it built, as being in a wheelchair and power tools don't really mix. Any talented people on here willing to help me out? I'll pay for time, materials, and shipping to New Mexico.

In order for this to sit on a table I would recommend bringing the base out abit. Extend the lost ball tray towards you and that should give you some stability with the unit latched closed. When you open it then you will need to either mount or have someone hold the unit to prevent tipping.

I used this design for my machines.. and did exactly what I am talking about.

Does anyone have the .pdf that Ken posted for his plans? I need to build a few more for recent machines and I can't find my copy. The original link is dead.

    Thanks,

    Rob
