Default Hanabi Hyakki reel light replacement

Started this new thread for anyone with bad LED reel lights in their Eleco pachislo machine. I know it's been covered, but what can I say?

For more info, you can read up here => Beast Sapp: Reel LEDs faulty? and follow the links.

LED's obtained from => Discrete LEDs - Quickar Electronics Inc

9 items from the bottom of the page are Piranha white LED's. You need 18 of them per machine (6 per reel). The item # is whpir (White Piranha 1200 mcd Typical @ 100 degree 20ma). Currently $.95 ea.

Additional Items you will need. (based on what I used, your milage may vary). From Radio Shack.
- 30w soldering iron kit (incl. iron, stand, solder, solder tool, and heat sink)
- *optional* solder stand w/ sponge (makes things much easier than chasing your iron around)
- desoldering braid

Also need a pair of wire snips to clip off resistors. And isopropyl alcohol to clean the residue off the circuit board after desoldering.

This is an easy project provided you have steady hands. This was my first time desoldering, and I had no trouble. Elapsed time approx. 1 hr.

Disassemble your reels and take the circuit board out. I did mine one at a time, and marked the orientation of the reel motor to the housing with a sharpie.

Before starting the desoldering process, cut off resistors R2, R4, & R6 with the snips.

To remove the old LED's, spool out a length of the desoldering braid, and place it on the LED prong to be desoldered , heat up the braid, and the solder with the iron. The braid will wick up the hot solder leaving a solder free joint. After all 6 legs of the original LED are solder free, use the solder tool (from the kit), and pry the LED off the board. Don't force it!!! If it appears to be stuck, recheck for any solder you missed and try again. You can also snip off the LED legs and dsolder them , but I found it easier to desolder the 6 legs and pry the whole thing out.

Before installing the new LED's, clean the residue off the board with the alcohol.

Install the new LED's as oriented in the pictures, and solder them in.

Install the circuit board in the reel assembly, and re-install the reel.

Enjoy playing your newly repaired pachi with the satisfaction you fixed it yourself!

Pictures to follow...

Well I am just getting started with mine. Pulled reels & about to start prep, so that when the LED arrive, I can just install & reassemble.
Thanks for the pictures.

Yes, that is the one I am fixing. about 1/2 the LEDs are going on it, so I figured that I should just replace them all. I could not get the price down. But $125 for a full screen is not to bad. Plus I was down that way picking up a couple of others.
I got a Fuji Arraking that is going to need bulbs but that one is a lot harder. Not LED & bulbs are soldered in.

I have no skills with this stuff. I've lost almost a whole reel now, the first one has a full set of working lights and the last one is missing the middle ones.

Eventually I'll have to learn how to do this...Just not looking forward to it!

on ebay they have these.
100 pcs 5mm Piranha LED Super Flux wide angle White on eBay (end time 10-Mar-10 02:12:44 GMT)
The forward voltage seems wrong though. My Sinbad Adventure.Seem to have RGB led in.I think they are as the LED has not gone out but has a geen tint and if I look at the other leds close i can see the RGB colours coming from the LEDS. I Are the white ones the same as RGB for replacement method above?
