Morning all!
I'm now 30, and have been interested in all kinds of slot machines since I was about 15. I've been lucky enough to have a games room whereever Ive lived, so have probably bought/sold about 25 machines over the last 15 years. Not for a business, for a hobby. These have been either fruit machines (AWP's), video games (dedicated and jamma), quiz machines (SWP's), high jackpot club machines, pinballs and some vending machines. To be honest, although I had heard of Pachislo (and Pachinko) I had never really considered getting a machine - until I went to the UK Pinball Show earlier this year! Since then, I have totally re-vamped the games room and sold all the UK fruit machines and video games - and replaced them with Pachislo's and Pachinkos. Hopefully I will be able to post a few pics of my new project soon, but after several weekends of making customised cabinets for the machines to stand on, I am really pleased I made the change! Although Ive always enjoyed fruit machines - I definately find the Pachislo's look nicer (and different!), and give the games room a more "Casino" look. Also, its a bit more friendly giving friends tokens to spend rather than them spending their own money ;O) Anyway....... after that long rambling omtroduction, I was wondering whether most people - given the choice - prefer traditional fruit machines or pachislo machines. In the UK, the prices here are about the same. Its also pretty much just as easy to get a pachislo as a fruit machine. Like I said, I've had several different fruit machines over the years - but in the last coupld of months, Ive changed from a fruit machine fan to a pachislo fan! I would be very interested to hear whether anyone else has made the same transition;o) Best wishes, Mark PS: Another benefit Ive found with Pachi's is that everyone I have dealt with is so nice! Sometimes, people who deal in "proper" arcade/fruit machines are not particularly friendly (especially arcade operators, in my experience). However, everyone without exception Ive bought pachi's from has been great. My pachinko was bought from Nik or Just Pachinko's (UK), and he has been extremely helpful answering questions etc, even though I only bought a £99 machine. Everything else I've bought from slotsdirect.tv (again, UK). Steve has been extremely helpful. All of my "after sales" questions have been answered, and any problems quickly resolved ;o) |

Hello or Ahoy
We have Fruit Machines, Pachislos and Pachinkos.... and whilst I have moved on over to the Dark Side of Pachinko totally...... My O.H. aka The Wookie still loves his Fruit Machines and Tetris and will play them almost every day. He also has a liking for Pachislos as does my Daughter - really they are beyond help!!! So you could say my home is a real mixture....... But if I had my way - it would be all Pachinkos!!!!! |

Of course, one wants them all! But if I HAD to make a choice between Pachislo and UK Fruit Machine, it would be the Fruit Machine ( I grew up around these and am nostalgic about them).
The main difference for me, other than looks, is the playability, most of the games have more enticing options and let you win small amounts more often to keep you hooked. I LOVE my early Bally Slot for that reason. It's game play is strictly borring (you pull handle, it wins or not), but because it pays out every few spins (usually), you don't actually notice that you are losing money all the time. Pachinkos and Fruit Machines don't compare, they're beasts of a different ilk, so I wouldn't choose one over the other. I would find it hard to choose between Pachinkos and Pinballs, perhaps giving the edge to a Pinball, though it is infinitely larger to store and more work to maintain. Everytime I think about Fruit Machines I can smell greasy fish and chips or curry for some reason. |

I have 4 Pachislos, 1 Pachinko and a UK Fruit machine.
I have never got on with the Pachinko, although I do love it for its "tech factor".. I love the Pachislos.. But I still prefer my Fruit Machine. Its big.. Its got 'games' which feel like Skill and frankly I like the fact that it takes REAL money.. I play it with all my spare change and it actually feels like there is a point to it as I am using it as a "Piggy Bank". However, the fact that I have all 3 make it a perfect setup.. On its own, even the Fruit Machine would get boring... But then again, I have a MAME cabinet (with 6400 games) which stops everything from getting dull. I hope this helps Jon |

I've got a pinball, quiz machine, pachinko and pachislo. Given the choice (and space), I'd have to be honest and say that I'd probably prefer pinball and UK fruit machines over pachinko and pachislo. There just seems more to a UK machine - do you take the money/feature - gamble or wait to get a better feature etc? You can play pinball with your mates competively in a way that you could not do with Pachis. Quiz machines you can have five of you playing at once. It's just a shame that they all take up so much space. Having said all that, I don't think I'd ever sell the pachis I've got (Spin Luck and Star Wars) and love the fact that they're so different and I love playing them. I could see me selling the quiz machine and pinball, if only to get updated versions. When I win the lottery I shall buy a castle and fill it with all sorts of machines!

What he said.I've also been an arcade engineer, and have pretty much had my fill of UK fruit machines. I think I'm hooked on pachinko's but I think it's more to do with the physical ball shooting side than the slot machine reels on the screen, so I'm not sure if pachislo is going to have anything for me. Pinball tables are a different matter entirely, got 25 of them now and despite the small size of the house, I always seem to find the space for another one. | |

I'd be up for getting more info on that.
To make things worse, we just had a worker transfer here from our UK office. I asked him when he got here if he had any weight restrictions on moving his household here, he said no, and that he didn't even fill the container he was given! Grrrr.. all I can think of is how many fruit machines I could have fit in there! |

I have another couple years before my company moves me back to the States from the UK. I only have room for one fruit machine now (along with 23 pachis), but they will be moving back 5 or 6 when the time comes. Wish I could take orders but I'm already dreaming of the basement gameroom with a wall of fruit machines.
Also have my eye on german fruit machines that are smaller and hang-on the wall - go to www.ebay.de and search for "spielautomat." Found a seller who will ship to the UK for only 85 euros. |
